Yes it is a sin, and the Christians are not the only one who does it, nor are they the only one who see it as wrong. Other religions view it as wrong too. and being a player is also a sin.

The Apostle Paul teaches that sex outside of marriage is sin. The Biblical word for this activity is fornication. Paul says:
Flee fornication. Every sin that a man doeth is without the body; but he that committeth fornication sinneth against his own body. 1 Corinthians 6:18
As for being a "player," if I understand you to mean someone who has many romantic entanglements, it is very likely to lead to fornication, and a young person is wise to avoid it. If you lack a serious love in your life, seek God. Jesus said, "Seek ye first the kingdom of God, and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added unto you." God knows the needs of his children. Do not seek those needs in a place that will surely disappoint you. Seek God, and He will supply all you need when you need it. That is the faith we have in Him, that He will care for us, even in affairs of the heart.

Along with all other kinds of sexual immorality, sex before marriage / premarital sex is repeatedly condemned in Scripture (Acts 15:20; Romans 1:29; 1 Corinthians 5:1; 6:13,18; 7:2; 10:8; 2 Corinthians 12:21; Galatians 5:19; Ephesians 5:3; Colossians 3:5; 1 Thessalonians 4:3; Jude 7). The Bible promotes abstinence before marriage. Sex before marriage is just as wrong as adultery and other forms of sexual immorality, because they all involve having sex with someone you are not married to. Sex between a husband and his wife is the only form of sexual relations that God approves of (Hebrews 13:4).
Sex before marriage has become so common for many reasons. Far too often we focus on the “recreation” aspect of sex without recognizing the “re-creation” aspect. Yes, sex is pleasurable. God designed it that way. He wants men and women to enjoy sexual activity (within the confines of marriage). However, the primary purpose of sex is not pleasure, but rather reproduction. God does not outlaw sex before marriage to rob us of pleasure, but to protect us from unwanted pregnancies and children born to parents who do not want them or are not prepared for them. Imagine how much better our world would be if God’s pattern for sex was followed: fewer sexually transmitted diseases, fewer un-wed mothers, fewer unwanted pregnancies, fewer abortions, etc. Abstinence is God’s only policy when it comes to sex before marriage. Abstinence saves lives, protects babies, gives sexual relations the proper value, and most importantly honors God.

Christians are not supposed to have sex before marriage. I've heard the reason is because it's like cheating on your future spouse, which is adultery. Dating many people isn't bad, but having sex is.
But of course, people mess up and do stupid things, so some Christians do end up doing that.

Get a Bible and look up the word fornication. That would be sex outside of marriage and it is a sin. Fornicators have no place in the Kingdom of God, too. This also goes for adulterers, adultery is sex outside of the marriage relationship or with a married person.

Unmarried sex = sin per the bible, so no christian has any business engaging in it. Of course we all do sin, but Paul reminds us the natural consequences of this sin against ones own body can be much more severe.

it breaks down to this, if you are aChristian, and you are not married, you should not be having sex. If you are having sex then you are fornicating, which is a sin. If you have a player who is claiming to be a Christian he is a backsliding Christian, which means he is sining. and when a Christian sins, he must stop, repent, and not sin again.

Christian or not, sleeping around is wrong and dangerous.
It does not hurt god or Jesus for one to sleep around, it just squanders the goodness within us. Men do think sex makes them more manly - or something.
