Please talk to your recruiter. Many join the military as an only parent. They need to have a family plan and give temp. custody to someone while in training and during deployments.
Don't listen to the ones that say you can't join. It IS possible. Depending on your situation, this may be the best thing for you to do. Steady pay, insurance for your son.
Good luck.

There are no options. Someone needs to take care of your son while you're in training, on exercise and possibly on deployment - most of which last months at a time.
Being a single parent would be hard enough in a reserve force, let alone active duty. If you want to join the military, you'll either have to find a decent partner or sign away custody of your son. Sorry.

as a single parent you are INELIGIBLE to enlist into ANY branch of the Active Duty Services. Your only options are some Reserves and possible the National Guard.
You may NOT give up custody for the sole purpose of enlisting. you may NOT regain custody back at all during your first term of enlistment..anywhere from 3-6 years.

Full physical custody of a father requires the full physical presence of the father. You been granted a great privilege and a somber charge. Forget about joining the military, Dad!

Your options depends on the court order, since I'm sure you won't get full custody if the court knew that you're joining the military. You're best bet is to inform the court that issue the order to help you decide what's best for your kid.
Good luck.

Your best bet is to talk with a recruiter, We are married and have 3 children my husband has been in way longer than I have as I enlisted almost 2 yrs ago, but when I enlisted in the Guard we had to have a family Care plan Army Regualtion 600-20 , there was a female( single) in BCT with me who had 2 children and had to give custody to her mom for her to join , your best bet is to talk with a recuiter, you may only need to have a family care plan ( someone to care for your child while your in training & when you deploy or have to go to field or have over night duty).
Good Luck,

Single parents cannot join the military. You will need to sign over custody of your son to another guardian while you are in training to join.

leave the child with his mother or other relatives. This would be pretty hard on a young kid. Your first duty is to the boy. I have a 6 year old boy and know that he would not understand why I had to leave him if I chose to do so.

It really takes the cake when questions like yours are asked here, the best and proper answer for your question is best answered by the military itself, so ask them directly.
