Ugh... I hate video games and think that adults who spend meaningless hours playing them are either trying to avoid the realities of life or regressing to their childhood. I guess it could be a real addiction too...You cannot cure it though, sorry to say it, unless you're in a situation where you have some kind of control over the person's living situation (i.e., if you are their parent and they live with you)... If you're the spouse or gf, you have my sympathy... Get the divorce papers ready, my friend... It will ruin your relationship if there's no time to nurture it and give you the attention you need... Good luck with that... :)

Serve him DIVORCE PAPERS... or throw out the darn game... and I mean BREAK the thing into PIECES and toss it in the trash.. If the addict was a child, you'd take the game from the child indefinitely.... so to must you do this with the adult addict.... on the first night without the game, take him by the hand and have him come on a LONG WALK with you..... if this is an adult CHILD of yours... just give him something else to do....

The adult could try to get a new hobby like basketball or fishing. But do video games really hurt people?

Video games are a stimulus and thus can be addicting to many individuals. The key to breaking any type of addiction is through behavior modification. The person has to want to quit and you have to remove it from his presence. He also has to avoid friends who constantly play these games as he will get sucked back in. As he is away from the stimulus for a significant period of time, his brain will not have the same craving for the games as it once did. I too used to be addicted to video games but I haven't played them in so long that I no longer have that instinct of sitting in front of the couch and playing for hours (5-9 hours). As we speak, there is an X-box less than 10 feet away from me and I have no desire to use it. It's my roommate's.

1.You and your friends get together and delete the memory card
or hard drive.

2. Explode it into small pieces.

3. Take turns with a baseball bat hitting those small pieces into even smaller pieces.

4. Light those pieces on fire.

5. Take turns pissing on them.

Get rid of the game. Look for alternative sources of recreation that they can do with you.
