definitely a portable DVD player, or some other device. maybe if you have an ipod, upload some music he'd like & let him listen. bring a coloring book, paper, crayons, etc, & let him draw you something. bring tons of snacks & tell him after each hour of him behaving & being a good boy, you'll give him an extra treat. (candy or a new toy) buy him his own disposable camera & he can take pictures of whatever he wants. bring him a pillow, blankie, & his favorite stuffed animal & let him have naptime.

hope this helps :]

I would say a dvd player would work good for a little while if your kid is into movies. If your child is like my soon to be 2 year old, movies are not his thing. I usually take a lot of toys, books, pencils, etc. for him to play with. Oh yeah, don't forget the snacks, but try to steer clear of sugary snacks. I usually give him one thing, and then when he starts getting tired of that I give him another toy or whatever. He really likes my older kids gameboys and leap pads. That usually keeps him entertained for a little while. If anything else, pull over at a rest stop or park and let him/her play and get out some of that energy. We have an upcoming trip that is about 16 hours long, so we'll be using a lot of these tactics. We've also taken a few 10 hour trips to grandma's house and he did really well. You never know, your 2 year old might surprise you and sleep most of the way. Good luck.

First, plan on lots of stops! I took my son twice to visit my sis when she lived in LA. It normally was an 8 hour trip but it took 10 hours the first time and 11 hours the second time because I did a lot of stops!

Buy some new toys and give them along the way when he is getting fussy. (Matchbox cars are great as they only cost about $1.)

Try and stop at places where he can run and stretch his legs out (finding a McDonald's playland is a life saver!).

Have snacks on hand.

Bring his favorite things...music, lovey, snacks and "dish" out during the trip.

Point out interesting things he would like to see. Tractor trailers, tow trucks, police cars. Make a game out of it, let's now find a cement truck, etc.. (My son loves any sort of vehicle and just won't sleep during a car trip because he wants to see everything!)

Hope these pointers help!

When my kids where little we took a 10 hr road trip. We went to the store and bought them little toys that cost only a couple dollars each, without them knowing of course. I wrapped them up and every few hours I gave a present, they loved the knew toys, didn't cost much and it kept them busy, both on the way to our destination and on our way home.
Don't for get snacks and juice

I took a 30 - hour trip with my son when he was 2. We brought a portable DVD player with plenty of child - friendly movies, music he liked, matchbox cars, and a little lap desk with coloring books, crayons, and paper. We also made sure to have plenty of nonperishable, easy - to - eat snacks for him. He was really good during the trip since we prepared to keep him entertained. Good luck and have fun!

We just did that ... easy with the older kids, more challenging with the almost-2-year-old. But it went fine. We played CDs with music he likes, sang songs, and I kept a big bag of toys in front with me and periodically handed things back to him (toy trains, stuffed animals, toy phone, lift-the-flap books, maraca, etc). He spent a fair amount of time taking off his shoes and socks and playing with them. :-) We stopped every once in a while to eat, run around, etc (and to pick up all the toys he had dropped on the floor and put them back in my bag for the next round). He slept for a pretty long time (if you leave at bedtime you're golden ... otherwise try to have it span naptime, at least!). Have a good trip.

Sometimes kids go to sleep a lot on long trips. But who knows. A DVD player would certainly be nice. Little play toys work well also.

And lots of prayer...

Give him sedatives to knock him out!

No, really, do you have a DVD player in your vehicle? If not, then take some toys along. Coloring books are good too.

If he's able to have conversations and recognize colors, you could have him count how many cars of different colors he sees. Or how many animals he sees. Something like that.

you can either get a portable dvd player or some toys but i think he will more than likely fall asleep anyway!!!!!
most two yr olds fall asleep on long car trips.
justtake it as it comes, play word games or try spotting things you see on the way or sing songs etc.... you should be alright!!!
