As long as all of them are registered and legal, and you have all the paperwork handy in case anyone asks for it, there is no limit. You might want to wonder what your neighbors will think, though.

The limit is how many your house will physically hold or how many you can afford. :)

I would personally draw the limit on how many I can securely store. They all have to fit in safe, if not, it's too big of risk to leave it laying around. I would feel terrible if any of mine were stolen. I have never heard of laws dictating how many guns you can own, but some states limit how many guns you can purchase per month. California is one of them I believe.

The only problem you may encounter is that if you lose your home in some sort of accident, your insurance company may not want to pay out if several hundred thousand dollars of firearms were destroyed. In most cases however, people insure the guns under seperate insurance just to be safe.

So I would say, limit yourself at what you think is reasonable.

As long as it's OK in your area and you can afford the ATF tax for each automatic firearm ($200) and the purchase price of all the 'registered' machine guns ($10,000 and up each) you plan on buying, you should be OK.

Otherwise if you had a legit business that deals with class 3 firearms, you could get a class 3 dealer license and have as many automatic firearms as you like, 'registered' or not. Of course you have to renew the license every year to be able to keep the firearms and that can cost a lot of money. Not to mention you give up some rights, such as the limit to search and seizure, to be able to have such a license.

The actual limit is how may you can store. Per ATF rules you can be the only one to have access to it. Unless of course you put on the Form 4 that it is going to a LLC or Trust and then any members of said group can have access. So filling you closet is not a good idea unless you are the only one with acces to your closet
