The Pilgrims landed on Plymouth Rock. The Puritans founded the Massachusetts Bay Colony. The Puritans' Christian values that were passed through subsequent generations on the contrary shaped our country in the most positive ways. I feel you may be under the impression that Christian values are an evil since many politicians seek approval of the "religious right" by attacking gay marriage etc. However, the best example of the assets that Puritans were to America is slavery. Slavery was first banned in the New England States. The loudest cry for Abolition also came from that region, leading to the Civil War and subsequent emancipation of slaves and eradication of slavery.

According to some theories I heard, they landed at Plymouth Rock due to the fact the ship got off course because the man at the helm was drinking too much beer and they crashed there.

Imagine that, an entire nation born because of a drunk driver getting into an accident.

Yes.

The Puritans were under the rock until 1992 when Newt Gingrich made them the rockstars of the Republican Party.

why would you feel that way?

dispite the ideas of the Puritans, many of them went forth with ideas to other colonys - like Roger Williams to Rhode Island making a colony that was religiously tolerant, also including people with no religious beliefs in with that.
