I have a 1998 Dodge Caravan. Car shakes when I hit 80 and above! Is this normal, i mean the van can still go up to 120, 40 miles less then its top speed and it's friggin shaking! is this normal? One thing though, I know that it is definitly not te tires or alignment for sure.

No,Night_Wo, It's not normal. Just guessing that you have checked the balance, It may be you have a tire (or two) with a radial run-out problem. You won't find it with a conventional wheel balancer. The machine that checks for this is one with a small drum that comes down on the tire and turns the tire slow to check for hard spots or soft spots in the rubber. You can't see these things with you're eye but they are in every tire! Some are so small you never feel them. And some can cause what you are describing. No amount of balancing will correct this! Call around and find a store (or dealer) who has a tire balancer with a radial run-out tester. and it will find the bad tire(s). When I was working for a Chrysler dealership, we had so much trouble with tire dealers in our area about bad tires on NEW vehicles, We bought a Hunter tire balancer with the radial run-out and printer. When we presented them with a printout of a bad tire, they had no options but to replace them.

radial runout. when you start radial force balancing tires you would be very surprised to find that 1 in 10 brand new tires actually meet the runout specs. if that doesn't do it, it could be cv joints, but they normally only vibrate when you are on the throttle. if it goes away when you let off, its driveline. 120 mph in a minivan?

It's probably normal given the make and year of the vehicle. Why do you want to take it above 80 anyway? Are you looking to blow your tranny?
