Is there not career in the military a person with asthma can have? What if it's not real bad?
I've had it since toddler age.
Could I do something administrative?
I'd like to go into the Air Force or Navy.
Thank you for your help

By the way, I'm not yet 16. I have to go to college first.
So, I have 6 years to decide.

asthma past the age of 13 is a PDQ with zero chance of a waiver. If you currently have it, you will NOT be getting into any branch of the military.

The only way you'll get in is if you lie on your application, which I highly discourage.
If it's later discovered, you'll be charged with fraudulent enlistment/commissioning, punishable by jail time/dishonorable discharge and you won't even be able to vote!
Asthma is an automatic PDQ (permanent disqualification).
My suggestion? Consider applying (right into your Junior/Senior year in college) for the PAQ program, short for Palace Acquire. You can enter as a Civil Servant trainee(working for any of the military bases), you can progress up the civilian ranks.
After you reach GS 12 or 13 (or equivalent--they are restructuring the names of civilian ranks), you will be supervising some military and will really be a part of the team. By the time you reach GS-14 or it's equivalent, you can become the equivalent of a Commander (they now allow civilians in leadership positions, they call them directors instead of commanders).
So you could really make a difference for your country, and you can even PCS (change station assignment) every few years, just like military. Some civilians are also serving in Iraq and Afghanistan, so it's a much more dynamic way to serve. Good luck!

The best way to find out for sure, check with a recruiter. They should be able to tell you the answer. If you are unable to become an active duty enlisted/officer in the military, you are not out of luck. The Department of Defense, as well as all of the military branches, employ thousands of civilians who work side by side with those serving.

the'll give you an asthma test if you fail you go home but you can appeal things like that and try again. i knew guys who failed it because they had taken it right after P.T. and were still worn out. they went back and took it again and were fine but they didn't actually have asthma in the first place. if you normally need an inhaler then i think you might be screwed.
