I would think he has fleas. You don't always see the actual live fleas - look for the flea dirt, which looks like this:

If you find these, get a flea treatment from a vet, NOT pet store. If you don't find these, still go to a vet to find out what the problem is - could be mange mites, allergies, skin infection.....

Don't use human shampoo on dogs. this will make the problem worse. Get him on a good food to start with (no corn, wheat or soy these can cause scratching and hives). Also get some neem oil (get this from any natural supplement or grocery store) and mix a few drops into some dog shampoo. This will kill any insect that could be on the dog's fur. Next get some diatomatose earth and sprinkle it all over the house and yard. that will kill every thing with an exoskeleton. This is cheap and effective. You might spend $30 and have enough to last the life of the dog.

The serum testing is notably lots meaningless. Sorry to assert...yet intradermal epidermis testing is the suitable for hypersensitivity testing. that's the place they inject diverse allergens under the floor and notice what they react to love they do in human beings. Then they make up the hypersensitivity pictures from regardless of they're maximum reactive to, in an attempt to desensitize them. It takes a protracted time (months and months) to work out earnings from the pictures in spite of the indisputable fact that it relatively is efficient for an hypersensitivity dogs. the fee of intradermal testing can run you upwards of $1500. meanwhile, there are topical treatments you are able to attempt. you're able to examine with your vet...i'm particular you have already got...yet there are medicated shampoos. additionally, my in demand is a bypass away on conditioner reported as Resicort. It has cortisone in it and works wonders on taking down the itching and redness. You sound like a dedicated proprietor and that i know how no longer uncomplicated the technique could be. quite a number of the time that's a splash hypersensitivity so wide-unfold bathing (each and every few days till under administration and then as quickly as each and every week) can relatively help observed with resicort.

No, please seek a vet's recommendation. Also, pet stores sell shampoos made especially for dogs. Shampoos with oatmeal tend to ease itching as well. Just look at the variety on the shelves and match your dog's condition with the label. Hope this helps!

NO never use a human shampoo on a dog. We have different PH levels than dogs do and using a human shampoo will just dry his skin and coat out. Use a doggie shampoo, preferably a hypoallergenic kind because it sounds like your dog has allergies.

Yes you can used Head & Shoulders on him. I use it on my dog in the winter because his skin gets dry & he gets flakes & this helps alot. You might want to try it 2-3 times to see if it helps & if it doesnt then try a dog shampoo or go to the vet. I hope this helps :)

No human shampoo is safe on dogs. If you have to use a household product, Dawn is what my vet recommended. The best thing to do is call your vet, and ask him.her.
