I think you are talking about a Stock Photo Site. This is where graphic artists go to find photography for their projects. There are many of them around, but most require very high standards. Photographers with large collections of generic type photos are represented by the stock agencies, and pay a commission to have their photos sold there.
There are now some 'Royalty Free' stock photo sites that sell your work for just a few dollars, and the photographers have to sell a lot of photos to make any money. If you want to check out one of the largest Royalty free sites, you can look at my portfolio at iStockphoto at http://istockphoto.com/FowleFoto or do a web search for 'Royalty Free Stock'

This is going to be tough. There are millions of super pictures and superior scenic photographers selling their work commercially and placing them on various image banks around the world. Little profit there except for some ego stroking.
The most success I have seen, comes from private sales; usually in fairs and exhibitions. You may want to investigate the opportunities in your community or your area to see what it would take to make it happen.
I don't want to discourage you, but this is a very tough market and you better be prepared to make some serious business plans if you want it to succeed.

At a scenic pictures store.
You NEED to realize that you are NOT going to get a LOT of cash for your pictures because the moment someone else sees them, he or she will say to him or herself,
"I can take THAT same picture! Why would I pay any money for THAT picture when my little digital can do the SAME thing?"
With digital as pervasive as it is, having a camera is no longer the status symbol it ONCE may have been.

This penny stock service has years of proven experience. Ultimately it is the best service for beginners to use https://tr.im/N425p
You will have to wait between 3 and 10 days to get into the system in most cases. When I signed up it took 8 days. I wished it was faster, but if you can wait a week or two to start earn life changing money than you will have what it takes to make it in this business.

I had to give Lucien B a "thumbs up".
You might make some money selling prints at art fairs and festivals around your area. I wouldn't place an order for a Porsche just yet, though.
One idea I've toyed with is offering 11x14 traditional black and white prints (traditional being from negatives, of course). Maybe one day....
