"specialized" field of medicine. That does not make sense! Brain surgery is highly "specialized," but it did not develop outside the MD umbrella. What do you think?

A DENTAL DEGREE BE IT A D.D.S. (DOCTOR OF DENTAL SURGERY) OR A D.M.D. (DOCTOR OF MEDICAL DENTISTRY) ARE SPECIALIZED BRANCHES OF MEDICINE. THEY HAVE A UNIQUE SET OF REQUIREMENTS AS OPPOSED TO A GENERAL MD DEGREE.

i would say because dentistry focuses on one part of the body that does not have the same inimate interaction with the rest of the body as other systems do. dental work, even surgery does not usually have such implications in relation to other organ systems.
