I think there IS some brand loyalty with some drivers and some people. Rumors were starting to leak about the JGR switch not long after Jr decided to go with HMS. I think that his talking to all the teams and their future plans got the ball rolling for an earlier than usual silly season. I have to believe that Jr knew about the move to Toyota and that's why he dropped Gibbs from his list of possible teams.

Joe Gibbs has publicly stated that he waited on Jr's decision before he made the choice to switch to Totota, because Jr wanted to stay with Chevy.
I wonder how that makes Stewart feel since he did not want to switch from a Chevy either. That shows how important Jr is to people (money wise).

Jr had a Chevrolet only clause in his DEI contract and I'm sure he has it in his new Hendrick contract also. Jr didn't do anything for money.
I still believe Tony Stewart may have that clause in his contract. He may change it to remain with Gibbs. Time will tell.
Jr is smart enough to know many of his fans support Chevrolet.

JGR would have stayed with Chevrolet because with Dale Jr. in their cars Chevrolet would have paid them the respect (in the form of support) that they deserve and then some. They would have had no reason to leave.

There were rumors flying about JGR back in april and may about going to Toyota...Jr is a chevy man all the way.. Jr nation would have died if he ended up in a toyota. I knew he would go to HMS, after all he said in a interview he would go with the best team....Now if JGR would have stayed Chevy maybe but, I knew he would go to HMS.
Go Dale Jr & HMS in 2008

He would have drove a Toyota and been 2nd in JGRs pecking order behind Stewart but ahead of Busch.

I think that is why Jr. did not sign with Gibbs. He knew they were leaning toward toyota.

Really doesn't matter because Jr is just your average ordinary NASCAR driver, so why the big deal over someone who is popular yes, but not such a great driver.
