Limit milk and dairy and give him lots of water. Often during school hours, children do not drink enough fluids. Talk to the teacher about allowing him to keep a water bottle in his backpack so that he gets enough during the day.

Im not sure about a six year old, but when my son was about 1 he had the same problem and they sell over the counter supositories or "buttplugs" for infants and young children. they just slide right in and my son didnt make any notion of discomfort.
The fiber should help out a lot. When youre constipated its because your large intestine is absorbing too much water. I know theres a rule that anything with a "p" will help push the poo along. ex : prunes, pear, pineapple juice, etc. you should see some results within a day.
If he doesnt have a bowel movement within a few days you should take him to the doctor so he doesnt have impaction. that has more problems in its own.
Once again, diet and some over the counter items like the supositories, soft chews, and fleet enimas can help.

how long has it been-have you seen your gp? Everyone varies some people 1/2 times a day and some 1/2times a week.
Try lots of warm water, and massaging lower abdomen. Also some exercises like lying him down and pulling knees up to chest, cycling movements with legs slowly. squatting. Not too many heavy foods as this can 'clog up system' and make situation worse, creates bloated feeling.Sometimes dairy foods if slightly intolerant can help stimulate bowels.
Well done to the balanced diet though keep it going and everything will work out soon if theres no other problems being the cause of discomfort.

Get a bottle of prune juice. Warm 4 ounces of it in a glass in the microwave. Give that to him ... then start giving him more fiber, salad and water EVERY DAY to keep him 'regular' ... do this ONLY if your son is TRULY constipated. If he just 'hasn't gone' for one or even two days, that's okay ... if he hasn't gone for four or five days, USE PRUNE JUICE! He'll 'go' within four hours after you give him the prune juice.

Calfig. I think you can get it from most Chemists or health food. Be careful that you don't make too big a deal about this or you might make him start to have a hang up about going to the toilet. He will eventually go, but don't put too much pressure on him. If in doubt after a few days - take him to the doc's for futher advice - if he's in a lot of pain, there could be bowel obstruction.

Stop fretting; it's a situation that will clear up on its own. He'll be far better off if momma talks to his pediatrician about proper nutrition for a 6-year-old AND realizes that occasionally, this is gonna happen. The child does NOT need extraordinary assistance, and in fact could be harmed if momma tries too hard!

fiber is a good healthy way to go about this situation. it may take a day or so before you see results. i've never tried the prune juice, just fiber supplement pills....
some other foods to try are....berries, beans, broccoli, peas and other veggies, nuts and seeds, and whole grains! good luck!

When I'm constipated, I load up on the spinach. Clears everything out in about 2 hours.
