If you are a Christian, and you believe that your God is the right God, and then the Dr. told you that you have 4 weeks to live, would you consider the existence of the Hindu gods then?
How about Zeus?
Leprechauns?

That's possibly the most naive, ridiculous question I've read on yahoo answers all month, and that's saying a LOT.
Would you STOP believing in God if a doctor told you that by some genetic fluke you were going to live healthily and happily without growing old for as long as you wanted?
If you start believing in a thing because of fear, it's not true belief, it's JUST FEAR. Is that why YOU believe in god?

No. If you're an atheist, you can't be just easily scared out of it. If you consider the existence of god after a doctor says that to you, you were never really an atheist.
And why would dying be a reason to believe in a faith, it's not like atheists are afraid of going to "hell." We don't even believe in it.

I have cancer and already know my life expectancy is limited, especially at my age of 62.
I have already considered and decided that there is no evidence for the existence of any gods.
Wishful thinking does not change the truth and I am content with the fact that when I die that is the end. I am at peace with that. I do not live in fear.

I consider the existence of God all the time.
After each consideration I conclude the same thing. I suspect it wouldn't be any different if I knew I would die soon.
My point is that I'd consider the existence of God, but I wouldn't believe.

No... If I told you that you were going to live forever would you denounce your religion?
a belief is not circumstantial... a true atheist does not believe in the existence of a god PERIOD!!! you can not expect to use scare tactics to convert people... well i guess judging by the History of religion yes you can.

No, atheists are already quite aware that they could die any day. We just find that life is too short to waste believing in some absurd religion. Having 4 weeks to live wouldn't change that.

if you did....then you were never an atheist to begin with and your whole live up to that point would have been a joke .... everything that you believed your whole live gone in a ten minute Dr. visit.

Is this terminal illness attacking my brain? 'Cause if so, I can't rule out that possibility.
*Edit* -- I should have read through the answers first. Someone beat me to this joke. I hate that.
Here, I'll give you an original answer. If I were going to go through all the trouble of deluding myself, I would convince myself that I'm going to live in spite of what the doctor said.

Trying to sneak Pascal's Wager past us, eh? Nice try.
*Drink*
I'm not going to accept god out of fear that something bad will happen to me after I die if I don't accept him. Unless what's going to kill me is an inoperable brain tumor that has damaged my capacity for logical thought, I'd have no reason to think about god at that point.
