I have a 98 Dodge Stratus and a 99 Ford Escort ZX2. I've taken the stereo out of the Stratus, and would like to put it in the Escort. I've not savvy to the lingo but I'll do my best to explain the problem.

There is a set of wires plugged into the back of the stereo that separate into 2 sets of wires. The plugs on the 2 sets of wires do not fit into the plugs in the Escort. Here are my questions:

1.) Is there an adapter that will connect the 2 sets of (Dodge compatible) plugs into the 2 sets of plugs in the Escort, do I need a different plug that goes into the back of the stereo that has Ford plugs, or do I need to splice into the wires and put on the Ford plugs?

2.) Where can I buy the required parts, and about how much are they? Links to exactly what I need would be appreciated.

3.) What do I do if I cannot find a place to attach the ground? The Stratus has a screw just for it, but I couldn't find one on the Escort.

BTW, the stereo is a Sony CDX-L250

Thanks for your help.

#1: NO buy new harness from wally mart or the like for an escort and re wire the harness. all you will have to do is match color to color.
#2:wal mart or circuit city
#3:the ground in the ford will be in one of the 2 harness you have in there behind the radio, it will be BLACK!! If im wrong just find a screw in behind the radio hole to attach your ground too instead of drilling a new hole into the car!! or use an existing bolt and loosen it off and wrap your radio ground around it then tighten the bolt back up!!

That two plug system is pretty standard on most stereos now. One plug is all your speakers, the other is power etc. You can get the pin out from the Internet if it is not already printed on the back of the stereo. You should be able to buy the plugs, then slice them into the existing harness on the Ford, either keeping the original plugs (if you are going to re-fit the original radio when you sell the car, or snipping them off if the fit is permanent. Sometimes you will have to do a snip job because there may not be enough space in the radio hole to accommodate all the extra crap hanging out of the back of the radio.

When you buy the plugs, don't forget to get the connectors to splice them into your existing wiring. the job is easy with the right connectors and is a pain without

You will need a wiring harness for the escort. Just go to best buy/ circuit city and get one. They are about $15. Keep the harness that goes from the radio. You will crimp the wires from the radio to the wires on the harness you get. Circuit city has 2 adapters you can get, one for the radio and one for the car. It is easier becaues you don't have to crimp wires but it costs more.

If you have to get a new ground in the escort just screw it in to some bare metal. Make sure it is touching bare metal and not any paint.
