I'm just curious....and this situation is completely hypothetical....like absolutely and COMPLETELY!
So....if a 17 year old girl and a 22 year old guy were to form a romantic relationship, could it work out? I mean...first of all, would it be legal? Just curious.....
Thanks!

You could form a relationship but being that the girl is 17 the young man could be put up on charges of statutory rape although there was consent. Even if the parents consented to the relationship, the state could intervene and press charges...not good.

At 22 you are a bit more mature and have a better idea what being responsible is about and have maybe had a few years out on your own to learn those lessons. But most young men at 22 like to party and are not ready for relationships....sex yes, but commitment not.

At 17 you haven't had the opportunity to experience life by being on your own and being responsible and I think mentality wise, 17 and 22 will eventually part ways. Both are still quite young. Maybe if the young lady was 22 and the young man was 27....but 17 and 22 are still too young and aren't ready to buckle down.

My ex boyfriend met his wife when she was 17 he was 21. They got married when she turned 18 and graduated high school. He was all she ever knew, then one day after 25 years of marriage, she up and left him (her story to her sisters was that she wanted to experience life).

What I am getting at is at 17 and at 22 don't be in a rush to settle into an intimate, long term relationship or marriage until you both have had some time to learn and grow.

most states legal is 18 i think it's 17 in some but not sure which ones. and I don't see why not. I got involved with a 21 year old when i was 18 worked fine for 4 years...don't see why a couple more years difference than that would be a huge difference...though it all depends on the people involved.

The legal part of the question has to do with how long they had been going out and how much older he was than her. Since you said 17 and 22... i would say no that wouldnt be legal. if it was 18 and 17 or 17 and 19 then yes it could be considered legal because they could have started dating when they were both minors.

First the Legal question. Usually yes. Most states and/or courts understand that at people at 17 do date older people.

If the written law says he's breaking the law until her 18th birthday, is may still be thrown out of court unless he is doing something the court thinks is borderline abusive.

Other states use an age difference range. If the age difference between the two parties is 5 or 6 years apart, it may not matter how old either of them is.

Can it work out? My wife is 8 years younger than I am, and she teases me about it regularly. Seems to be working out for us.

It all depends on what state you are in, for legal purposes. Legally he could get into trouble because he's over 18, but more because he's more than 4 years older. But usually a parent has to push the law for that one. Most states say over 18 and more than 4 years older.
It could work emotionally as well. My opinion is, that females mature more quickly than males anyway. Im over 35 and have dated 19 year olds and it worked out great. But thats just my opinion. Good luck.

Depending on where you live, in most parts of the US it's not legal... but maybe it could work out. I think 5 years different is a bit much for ppl so young.

It's like, the younger you guys are, and the farther the age gap, the less doable.

Like 12 and17 would never work out.
Yet 25 and 30 could work better.
But both are 5 years difference.

I don't think there is anything wrong with a 22 yr old dating a 17 yr old. Age is just a number, but yes by law it would be considered illegal. As long as no one of authority knows about the age difference then why not??

a 17 year old girl and a 22 year old guy have NOTHING in common. I'm 23, it would be like dating a baby. You don't pay bills, youve never been to college, and life is much different when youre that age. If it were the same spread of years but from 22 to 27 it would be a different story all together. He's likely to just use you for sex before realizing how ridiculous it will be to hang around with a girl that young

Guys do mature much later then girls but i don't think that a 17 year old is ready for a relationship and that is not that big of a difference just don't get pregnant because a 17 year old is not old enough for that.

Depends on which state they lived in. 17 is legal to marry, and or have a sexual relationship. I suppose it could work, depending on how the 2 people really felt about each other. Anything is possible, stranger things have happened.
