I scanned a few answers but did not read ALL of them in full detail.

It's a loaded, opinionated question...supported by opinionated answers.

I may as well weigh in with my opinion:

What authority says they are the best group within the military? Depending on who you ask they are not. An Air Force Pararescueman (or Combat Controller for that matter) or Navy Seal would both offer strong points about whose "tougher" or who risks their lives more.

Most commoners love to focus on "first ones in". Which actually doesn't mean much. "First ones in" groups are joint forces. There is no one specialty that is always there when absolutely no one else is.

We are all one bad @ss team, and together (all 4 branches) we are unstoppable.

There is nothing wrong with service pride. But let's be real. No one is "better" than the other. Believe what you want. But it's our teamwork that makes us greater.

Those of you that keep naming Navy SEALs, Army Rangers, AF Para... realize these are special units within these branches, right. Marines train everyone for combat whether you are a typer, mechanic, or supply we all train for combat. Through my experience when you have a person that was special forces trained they come back to their unit and make sure everyone is trained. Marines physical fitness standards and training is higher than the others. Marines are the first called by the President because they travel light and can stop a progressing force until support arrive with the gear on their backs, i.e. Mortars, Dragons, M2, MK19, communications . Thats why when the barracks bombing in Beirut 1983, Marines (We) were there the next day. When Saddam invaded Kuwait I was there within a couple days awaiting supply ships, Army s big gear and the Navy ships to turn around. Last point you never hear of a Marine POW unless it s a pilot. Marines are trained not to become POW we are trained to fight to the death and get a chow hall or ship named after you.

lol, im laughing at kings answer. The marine corps are the most "military" of all the branches. It is the toughest best trained, most educated infantry force in the world. There skills and talent in solving problems and evolving with the ever changing enemy's of the USA are top notch. They will go down as one of the greatest infantry forces in the world along with the Spartans and Romans. They are formidable warriors.

But do not confuse marines with marines infantry. All aspects branches and fighting forces do separate jobs. The marines might have the best infantry, but to defend king up there, the seals are of the best of the special operations.

It's about bragging rights. The marines were suppose to be a fast reactionary force for the government motto was, "Send in the marines." The U.S. air force and navy fighters started to get their act together around the 1980s and the planes and tomahawk missiles were used more. So for about 180 years it was the marines that were sent in to fight on foreign soil. The U.S. army just doesn't have that kind of history.

most courageous military personnel. Get in and get the dirty work done. They go through hell to defend the country... willingly. They are completely formed into a military person (AF for me is like a normal everyday job) They are trained to be the best at anything they do

The Marine Corps is the brother and sister hood the other Militaries would like to be. Our training, our thinking, our devotion to God, Country, and Corps. These beliefes make us who we are.
