The idea is that evolution is a part of science, not a part of religion. And since evolution deals with life (how it evolved) and also specifically how humans got on earth it touches, in a scientific way, on the same matter most religions touch on in a non-scientific way. So many see this as a non-religious explanation that contradicts religious explanations. This is how atheism is tied to evolution for a lot of people.

It does not rule out the possibility of a god or higher power. It does directly conflict with the big 3 religions creation notion.
I doubt many atheists are atheists just because of the TOH.
Personally I don't see the supernatural in the world or the universe.
I do not require made up explanations for things that may be beyond the capacity of the human mind. Sometimes I don't know is a perfectly acceptable answer. So the idea of god is irrelevant.

My being an atheist was not because of the Theory of Evolution. Evolution is just an explanation of how life started and spread on Earth. The difficulty it runs into is that our ancestors used religion to explain our origins and now those who do believe in a God don't want to give up creation stories in light of the evidence. It is unfortunate that religion and science conflict. The good new to me is science is based on putting known facts together to come up with great explanations of why things are the way they are.

Evolution is a philosophy and belief system that derived from a desire to explain origins from a world view devoid of God. You will not find any writings by the early Church, the Church fathers or Jewish writings that imply anything other than special creation. Evolution is contradictory to the Bible and what it teaches. It teaches there is no sins, no sin nature, no Adam and Eve, no need for a savior. It teaches that all things came about through time and chance, without the divine works of a supernatural Creator. The Bible teaches that God spoke the universe into being, evolution teaches it all happened by random acts of nature.

Evolution is applied to Atheists because that would destroy the idea that man was created in God's image - how could we be in God's image but change?
I just don't understand why a lack of evidence = God exists conclusively or God doesn't exist conclusively

As for evidence that he was not involved, I can only offer an allegory; when you eat cookies, you only tasted the ingredients that are necessary for the cookies. You don't taste catsup or mustard or oregano because they are not needed to make cookies. It's the same with the Universe and existence as we know it. Adding God to the equation is unnecessary and certainly doesn't make any sense. How the Universe came to be is quite understandable without having to include him.

Nothing about evolution says a thing about gods. What it says is that the Bible (or whatever holy text you pick) got it wrong.
And I am really hard pressed to come up with how it matters if there is a god that has no measurable effect on the Universe.

Nothing is evolution indicates anything about the existence of deity. Evolution shows that life could arise without divine intervention.

Evolution shows that a divine designer is unnecessary to explain the complexity of life on earth. It also suggests that a literal reading of Genesis is flawed.
But it does not prove God's nonexistence.

evolution does not imply atheism. in fact, i will show some respect to Christians that believe in evolution. god could be behind evolution if he did exist. who knows?
the only problem i have with Christians who adopt evolution is....evolution contradicts genesis. this makes the bible either wrong or representative at best. and, if it is representative, its worthless as no one can properly translate.
