Hi There, using a steth to listen to Lung sounds you can find out if the patient has any airway constriction, spasm or if there is secretions in any of the lung lobes. According to what they hear the Respiratory Therapist can Suction the patient or suggest the MD to do certain treatments. When a patient is intubated( patient has been connected to a ventilator with an artificial airway) RT can listen to the breath sounds and make sure the tube is in the right place that it provides air in both left and right lobes.
A cardiologist can listen to Heatrsounds and determine if the patient has any abnormalities. Even abnormal bowel sounds could be found out to determine the disease process.
