I adopted my kitten last week, and two days later I developed little bumps on my abdomen that itch like crazy. They have now spread to my sides, chest, arms, and legs. There are NO fleas, and my kitten doesn't even seem to be itching at all. My boyfriend isn't getting them, and I have always had cats in my life - with no allergic reactions. I took the kitten to the vet, and they aren't sure yet either. I'm a little concerned... does anyone have any suggestions of what could be going on here?

If you are sure that there aren't any fleas or mites, you may have developed an allergy to the dander.
I seldom advise bathing a kitten, but in this case it may be helpful. Your kitten may just be carrying allergins into your house from their previous home. Ask your vet first before you proceed.
Have someone else brush your kitten thoroughly first. Be sure you use a very gentle soap and rinse throughly.
I have had the occasional cat that I have had mild reactions to. I think a kitten is rather young, but I found that rubbing a fabric softener or applying mild hair conditioner on the fur helps a little. Again, please ask your vet before you do this.
You may want to invest in an air filtration system. They can be inexpensive and really do help with the air quality.
In the meantime, you may try bathing in Aveeno or oatmeal to help relieve the itching.

Good luck and I hope this helps.

Sure sounds like fleas! Flea comb your kitten, look for the flea dirts:

You usually see these rather than the actual live fleas. Just because your cat or boyfriend isn't itching doesn't mean much - people and animals have differing susceptibility.

Anyway, if a vet wasn't sure, what hope do you think you have of getting the answer from here? All I can say is, go back to the vet, or try another. Flea treat your kitten, you should be doing this anyway. Don't use any of the crap from pet stores,

Until you said you've always had cats and no allergic reactions, that was my guess. It sounds like hives which can be a symptom of an allergy. Since the kitten checked out OK at the vets, you may want to see your doctor.

The spreading of the rash sounds like what happens when I encounter poison ivy - it starts in one spot and then becomes systemic, spreading all over my arms, legs, etc. It's a trip to the doctor for me. There's poison ivy in my yard and I'm careful to keep the cat away from it in case she rubs it, I don't want her to pass it on to me. I'm not suggesting this is what happened to you necessarily. It was an odd thought that something else could be going on and your doctor may help you figure it out.

Could it be mites? Treat the house and cat as if for fleas see what happens. In the meantime take some benedryl.

just go to the doctors ... not the vets (unless your an animal .. lol) .... and ask them why that happened ... you could be allergic to something else .. it could've been a coincidence that it happened after you got your cat
