I couldnt sit through more than the first few minutes, I was so disgusted with the parlour tricks...
This woman claims to speak with the dead. Her first guests are two women - sisters about 30-35yo. They sit and she introduces herself and says how she does things - she will need a personal object of the deceased person. They give her a necklace - miraculously, she "feels" that it belonged to their mother!!! OMG, it must be real, right??
It took me about 10 seconds to figure it out. Two ladies, both sisters and around mid-30's in age - whom are these two women most likely to have lost? A PARENT, right? The necklace - OBVIOUSLY female jewelry. So, she states "mom" and both girls grab each others hands quickly - thus confirming to the "psychic" that she is on target so far...
Why do people fall for this BS? I'll admit - the woman was good at what she does, but it was so transparent as a parlour trick, I couldnt watch more than 10 minutes...

apart from the possibility of cold reading
a medium should NOT hold anything
there are actually laws in the UK against this
when we hold an object then we may simply be tapping into the energy of that object and doing a psychic reading ( which anyone can do )... it is called psychometry
this does NOT prove spirit and we should never make that claim while holding an object
this is the type of rubbish that makes it difficult for serious mediums to even begin to prove themself

I thought she was nothing short of disgusting. To bring another child into that environment is just plain wrong, and it personally irritates me that people like her give all of us young mums a bad name!! I had my first child at 18 and I am in NO WAY a mother like that. My boys are fed, clothed and educated brilliantly. They have never been subject to any form of physical or emotional abuse and they are happy, healthy little boys who are being well brought up. I study to provide a better future for them, and I will work damn hard once I'm qualified to continue to give them the best, not just settle for the state to support them for the rest of their lives. By making the choices she is making she is condemning her children to follow the same path because it's the only example they have. If I'd had the background she had I'd be working extra hard to ensure their life was better not just showing them that it's OK to be a work shy, dirty little tramp that has children for a living!!

I'm familiar with Lisa Williams. I've seen her on television several times now but I missed the show last night that you are referring to. I happen to believe that she does, indeed, possess physic powers. She may not have come off last night as authentic. Try watching her again in a different setting. I guarantee you, she will amaze you. She's more gifted than John Edward, in my opinion. Well...she's definitely more entertaining to watch with that spiked, multi-colored hair and big smile.
P.S.--I just have to say that your question and subsequent expansion on the question is very well written--something that is rare here on Yahoo!

I've seen the previews and was pretty much just disgusted by the idea of yet another schiester getting their own show. I still say the "pet psychic" was the worst though.

Thanks for posting this.
I watch two episodes of 'Still Standing' on Lifetime (yeah, yeah) every night, and they plug this show quite a bit. I will admit that I was morbidly curious, but after reading your comments, I'll probably pass on it.
Can't say right now whether or not I'll skip the Ricki Lake/mastectomy movie, though...

Sounds like another huckster to me. What channel is she on?
I believe you can contact the dead, but as I said in another answer, it's nothing special and it doesn't look or sound like a Hollywood movie.
Sounds like she's good at casing her clients, anyway.

Houdini proved all pychics wrong. It's all for entertainment. They don't know anything. Both my parents are gone and I sure don't need someone telling me about them. I'm pretty sure if they wanted me to know something they would have told me and not some scam artist.

oh psyche i thought i was gonna be about the grateful dead. yea i hate how people fall for that psychic crap. i think john edwards was the worst and most boring psyhic to watch on tv. he always reminded me of some kind of auctioneer for the dead.
