Hello Cool Chic,
First in Genesis 1v16 we read that the Sun was created on the forth 'day'. Hence, we reason that there is an immediate problem with the English text because a day to us is governed by the earth's spin on its axis in 24 hours, usually noticed because the Sun appears to rise and set. Hence, if the Sun was created on 'day' 4, how could anyone talk about 'days' 1, 2 and 3? But dig deeper to the Hebrew text and we find something interesting. The Hebrew text uses the word 'Yom' which can mean either 'day', or alternatively it can mean 'period' - a longer period of time, as we would say in English, 'in the days of' someone. Hence the problem may be that the translator chose the wrong alternative meaning of the Hebrew word, 'Yom'. This is a matter of interpretation, it is not a definite thing. In the Genesis 1 context 'Yom' should perhaps be translated 'period of time'. The text then would then make more sense, with the Sun being created in the fourth period.
This interpretation immediately allows the biblical creation to have taken a much longer time ....
Second, how did God create it, I have no idea. Perhaps science and geology can give us some more clues. But those are different subjects right?

Much of the Bible is symbolic. 7 Days could have been 7 billion years to God. God's idea of the time space continuem is different than ours. 100 years is along time to us and a blink of an eyelash to GOD.
Much of the Bible was written in a time when things were put in there that people of that time could relate too.
The Eagle is mentioned and now many believe it is symbolic of the United States, though it didn't exist when the Bible was written. People make whatever they want according to their beliefs out of the Bibles symbolic messages, the bottom line is that you either believe or you don't, I would rather believe and have it be untrue, than not believe and feel the rath of GOD. So .... on that note... Is the something that looks like a mountain that falls from the sky burning, is that a nucleur Bomb/holocaust or an Asteroid? Everyone has an opinion.
Couldn't evolution and the BIBLE have taken place during those 7 days at the same time? Especially if it was really 7 Billon years.... Here is how the Bible was written, some writtings were found, King James in England had a group of Biblical Scholars of the time pick and choice from these writings what would go into the King James Version of the Church of England (Catholic Lite) Bible. They omitted some texts that were in the Roman Catholic Version. They put together todays most commonly sold version known as the King James Version. Then the American Standard Version came about to eliminate the Thys and Thus that were difficult for the typical American to understand. So basically, I don't think the Bible is literal on all things, but is symbolic on some things.

Things were explained in story fashion in Days of Old. Because people didn't have much knowledge. That doesn't mean these stories have no value.
7 is a spiritual number, and I feel it symbolizes Light. Which when going through a prism breaks down into 6 colors.
Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, and Violet. I have heard many other colors used to represent the 7th, but they are all just variations of other colors. I think the 7th is what the other 6 combined create. White, or Clear Light.
Adam and Eve being made male and female represent the 2 aspects of the Lifeforce, flowing out and back to our Creator. We call them Masculine and Feminine.
A tree symbolizes the dimensions as they rise up. The rib, being in the middle of Adams body, shows women are equal
in Gods eyes
The serpent has always symbolized knowledge. Like the 2
snakes on the staff of the Medical Profession.

You must first understand that 24 hour days apply only on earth. Cosmic time is different. Even on earth, you hear old people tell what happened in their day. That was not a literal 24 hour time period but encompassing years.
Also in Genesis, it does not tell how much time passed between days. It says one day ended, then another began. When a craftsman constructs something, he usually does not include the time required for cooling or drying time of paints, glues. or metals. It no doubt took much time for materials of planets to cool and congeal. Time for things once formed to grow and reproduce. This would not necessarily be included in the creative day
We can make some assumptions based on the Bible's information. After the creation of man and woman, God rested to begin the 7th day. From the Bible and historical records, that was about 6,000 years ago. We also know Jesus' rulership over the earth bringing us back to perfection will be 1,000 years at which point he is to give it back over to his Father. This hasn't happened yet. So we can say a creative day is around 7,000 years long. Adding to that the period between the days is an unknown length, and the planet can be millions of years old. Man has been here about 6,000 years.
We just need to keep in mind that science's dating methods are not that great. Any one thing broken up and asked for dating info from different sources will get back as many dates as sources.

The actual word used in the ancient Hebrew does not specify how long a day is. The word actually means a time span. For some reason or another the passage is traditionally translated as being a day assuming our 24 hour period. Too, remember that the Bible says a day with God is as a thousand years and a 1000 years as one day. Also, the Bible is not a science book, it is not a novel, it is not a history book. The Bible is a book of revelation of God to people. Because of Abraham's faith in the One Creator God while others believed in several gods, Jehovah God chose Abraham to bring forth a people for God through whom He would reveal himself to the world. Then Jesus came revealing God's nature of love, grace and mercy. There are times in which science, history and biblical events coincide and support each other and there are times in which they seem to contradict each other. The Bible was not intended to contend with worldly, earthly matters but to record the Revelation of the Nature of God to those people who would accept him by faith, and then to instruct us in the way of godliness.

He probably had a Segway to get around on.
Seriously, Gen 1 says:
Day 1: Light & Dark
Day 2: Divider between the sky and the sea
Day 3: Dry land (plus plants)
Day 4: Things that go in the light and dark
Day 5: Things that go in the sea and the sky
Day 6: Things that go on dry land
Day 7: Rest

As you've mention the word "GOD" which is a very powerful word. Remember that god has the power to do it. All he had to do was to speak the word and it came into being. To understand i think that you would have to understand what the word god actually means. Nothing is impossible for god to do. I don't think that it would surprise me if he took one hour because it still remains that he is god and that he has the power to do any tthing. I hope that you will understand soon.
