I think that idea is fine. Just make sure they realize the directions are there- maybe have a line on the front saying that the directions are on the back.
Plus printing the directions on the back keeps everything in one place. They have the date, time etc on the front and the directions on the back. No losing that little slip that has the directions.

Well how formal is your wedding? If it is a small casual wedding then I would say go for it save the trees!
If you are having a large wedding that is formal I would suggest using a seperate sheet of paper. You could always not print the directions (unless it is an unknown place to many people). These people who you are inviting will not save your invitation as a momento so you could print the address on that and they can find the directions themselves and use their own paper to print them. I doubt that many all the people will save them anyway, they will probably need to ask or look up the directions come wedding day.
But its totally your call, to be kind to the trees, go ahead a use the back of the invite, but remember based on the paper you use the directions may show through the paper on the invitation side and then it becomes and issue of how well your hard work turned out.

To get around it looking tacky, you could put in small type at the bottom of the directions, "These directions were printed on the back of the invitations to save paper, thus saving a tree." Or something like that, anyway.
That way you're saving time and money, and being environmentally friendly at the same time.
Also, if you're printing your own invites, be careful and make sure you use high-quality paper so that the directions don't bleed to the print of the actual invite.

I have to say it is a bit tacky. Directions should be printed as an insert to the invitation. Depending on how long your directions are and the formality of your invites you can always print on index sized card paper. Or you can simply purchase some extra response cards for your directions or print on small sheets of vellum or decorative paper. It will ruin the whole look of your nice invitation if you have information printed on the back.

Yes, I think it might be a little tacky. Do you have the name of the place on the front of your invitations? If you have an address on there, you can just assume that people will MapQuest it.
If you really want to do directions, you can get nice vellum paper and print them on that and include them in with the invitation. To save money, print the directions small and cut the paper into 6ths.

I don't find that tacky at all. It's never tacky to save paper or help the environment. So go ahead and do it! People may tell you it's tacky, but I bet those who receive invitations will appreciate it. Printing the directions on the bottom is also an idea. Figure out what you think would be best. Oh, and congratulations! =]

Depends on how you print them. With invitations you could be one of the first to effectively print directions on the back. Things like this are all about style and etc. Don't just think of saving paper, but also look at the impact of having directions on the back. I'm sure a very light font would suffice.

It's not too tacky (given that you're printing the invitations yourself) -- but some people will not find the directions "hidden" on the back. How much paper could you possibly use for the directions on a separate enclosure?
If you think it might be tacky -- don't risk it & just print it separately.

Not tacky but not a good idea. Some people want to save the invitation as a memento. Put a separate piece of paper that they can carry in the car.

its not tacky at all! i am all for saving paper and pennies everywhere you can.
as long as the ink doesn't show through the other side and as long as people think to turn the invitation over and look at the back - i think its a great idea!
have a wonderful wedding!
