Ahem. Giving life for religious beliefs sounds familiar....

Oh yes. I remember now. 9/11. So Christians are like that too, then? Why doesn't that surprise me?

As for me, I have no religious beliefs, and don't have to keep ANYONE happy by killing myself. I'd rather go to hell. At least it's a quiet little seaside town, as opposed to heaven which doesn't seem to be in any atlases I've seen.

When I die, my soul's going to Disneyworld, my heart's going to some unlucky transplant patient, along with some other stuff which also might get pickled for science. The rest's going to rot. But I donate my breasts to some vain teenager who wants silicone. Big is beautiful, but fake is not. When in doubt, switch.

Life inspired by God is full , happy life ! In contrast - life without God will in the end lead you to a very dark place , empty of God's presence (which brings light , relief , peace , joy) ! That dark place is also known as Hell !
A believer will rather give his life (as a martyr) instead of giving up The Lord , Who shed His holy blood on the cross for us! A believer will willingly sacrifice their self for his Lord , because they know that He will grant them martyr's wreath and the believer will have his life again in the Kingdom of Heaven , sitting on the right side of the Almighty , the believer will not wince before the the tormenter - for they will accept the brief moment of torture instead of eternity in Hell !
Doing this - the believer will be glorious in Heaven - and a "role model" and symbol of inspiration for numerous other believers !
Amen!

It doesn't.

The only thing that would validate their beliefs would be the existence of their God, and consequently the non-existence of all others. Since all gods are intent on not giving any actual proof, but still demand abject subservience, I would say that they're in a hard spot. Good thing they have faith!

If that validates Christianity, then Id hate to think what a suicide bomber validates....

And, actually, we atheists dont really risk anything for our beliefs, except for public acceptance.

Well it doesn't neccesarily, but why does it really matter since what they died for is try to make the world abetter place and end all suffering. Why is that a bad thing if living their life as a christian made someone elces life one bit less painful, less sad, or less difficult. All i can tell is that that kind of life style is worth living if it brings one shining light to someones life that is full of darkness.

I think what validates any ones beliefs is the way they life their lives. The love and joy they give others. The benefit they bring to life. It is hard to die for your faith, it is harder yet to live it.

You answered your own question. Faith is about being willing to bet your life on what you believe, no matter what that is..

Though I thought Athiests don't believe in Hell, so they don't really think they're risking anything, do they?

it relatively is unhappy. they are proving to you their ideals have ethical limits because of the fact they are no longer very extreme-high quality. Thereby reinforcing that what's exterior their ideals could have greater value. In Judaism, perception is given plenty much less magnitude. So, in case you act interior the strikes, you've doubts & detect each variety of philosophical concepts & in all danger learn them as written via earlier Rabbis who additionally explored them. additionally, interior the previous couple of centuries with the creation of Reform Judaism, there is extra area to proceed the faith in spite of while you're concepts conflict with the finished classic ones. I desire you nicely at coping with those family members. they are no longer appearing out of authentic spirituality no count what they suspect, yet fairly out of human frality. a faith it is robust would not could desire to supress those that don't consider it. Judaism lands up on the receiving end of that comparable difficulty you're describing, on international no longer guy or woman point, so I also have a small style of what you're experiencing. follow your guy or woman truths. ------- Tehilla - your guilt remark struck recognition for me. Jewish guilt is pervasive, yet at totaly diverse character -- you ought to even say, it relatively is many times "love" based at it relatively is essense? you're precise, it is the turn area & it relatively is lacking in maximum Jewish guilt - shaming. it is likewise continuously approximately strikes (in the direction of others), no longer approximately center self.

When Jesus raised from the dead, He overcame the fear of death that had ruled people throughout history. So? What can man do to us? They can only kill our body. To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord God. Our soul/spirit goes to be with the Lord. Our body turns to dirt.
