A long time ago, a friend made us a snack. He said it was a Spanish breakfast recipe. It was sweet rice and mint, in a lot of milk. I'm sure there are other ingredients but it was over 10 years ago.

I've searched for it on the engines and have come up with Rice Pudding and a few others with mango, but nothing quite like this.

Anyone know what dish I'm talking about, or could point me in the right direction? It was delicious!

Oh yeah and there was a small amount of raisin, and it was very soupy. Of course my friend was also in 6th grade so he could've made it wrong.

Arroz con leche

INGREDIENTS:
3 cups whole milk
1 can sweetened condensed milk
2 teaspoons vanilla
1/4 teaspoon salt
2 cinnamon sticks
1/2 cup raisins, soaked in warm water to soften
1 cup rice, short or medium grain
PREPARATION:
Bring milk to a simmer. Stir in rice, add in cinnamon sticks and simmer until rice is softened, about 15-20 minutes. Remove cinnamon sticks and stir in remaining ingredients. Bring to a slight simmer and cook for an additional 20 minutes or until almost all of the liquid is absorbed and rice has a pudding-like consistency.

Serve hot topped with a sprinkle of cinnamon or butter.

I've scoured high and low for you--spoken to several Spanish/Brazilian/Cuban and Mexican friends for you, and they all come up with versions of USA rice puddings.

I think your friend made rice pudding but with his own twist of the mint. It could---be a greek version...I didn't check that one out. Wait--I just checked on the Web, and gosh--they are ALL the same recipe with the added twist of lemon peels.
There ya go. Sorry, guess I'm not really any help, but I tried--really tried!. I make a wonderful rice pudding myself--I guess that was what drew me to your question, so if you want mine, just write and ask. I'm happy to share. Mine does not have sweet cond milk. Just rice, milk or half n half, eggs and sugar.

Arroz con leche - great! Steam your white rice and when it is done, add milk ( I add half 2% and half carnation condensed), add raisins, cinnamon (powder or stick) and a touch of vanilla. You can serve it hot or cold. Think I'll make some this weekend for my son.

Alicia is correct Arroz con Leche. It is a very common recipe in Hispanic culture. It's not just for breakfast either. We also eat at dinner, before dinner, anytime! Yumm.
