I have carried a pocket knife since I was that age. In fact I still always carry a Swiss Army knife on me - the things are just too useful to have around.

Well if he was Swiss no problem, :-P

despite all your ranting a swiss army knife is a civilian pen knife with a million uses, ever see the old tv series "McGiver"?

It is not against the law to have one the blade is under the regulation allowed by the law.

Most Boy scouts and Girl Guides carry them as well.

Why not? Had a pocket knife before I was 11, nothing as cool as a Swiss Army knife though. It was a pretty useful tool.

When I was eleven I had a Bowie knife with a 6" blade and when I was twelve I had a Stilletto too with a 6" blade. etc

I would be rather more worried about these Dad's in the USA teaching their boys how to use guns at age twelve etc.

Sure it is. My son has had a few pocket knifes since he's been 9 years old. He loves to carve things out of wood and sticks he finds outside. Just teach him the safety of using it.
I did and I trust him 100%. It's a thing that boys love.

Why not, if the kid is responsible. I had my first pocket knife when I was 6 years old. I did cut my finger, but I learned how to handle it fast.

No, if the kid is taught to use it properly, there should be no scene. The only way that he/she would make a scene would be by waving it around in public or something, and he/she should be taught not to do that. So if the kid knows the safety, he/she should be fine.

y not, it's a kid, let um screw around. If they get cut, they will have learned a lesson on thier own.

When you were a kid, you were probably told not to touch the stove when it was hot, but you didn't realize that until you actually learned for youself.

Don't baby your kid.
