I don't practice Roman Catholicism, and I disagree with pretty much most of what the Church teaches, but technically I still am Roman Catholic. Not exactly sure how to leave it, other than being excommunicated or something. Maybe the only way to really leave it for certain is by converting to a different religion. But so far I haven't found any other religion I would consider converting to. :(

I left for a number of reasons.

I started questioning my faith after listening to college intellectuals and reading the works of Carlos Castaneda. I then turned to Buddism for a while and then decided I was an atheist. After a few years, casual observation of the world told me that maybe, just maybe I was wrong about the whole thing.

I started reading about the history of mythology & religion as well as philosophy & theology, I came upon an entirely different conclusion on the existence of God and the purpose for religion.

I have since returned to the Catholic Church and although I don't agree with all of the dogma, I have concluded that for me at least it is the proper choice.

I'm a Catholic and I'm still with the Church, but I wanted to correct something in your question. Once your a Catholic, you're always a Catholic. Once you've been baptized in the Church, you stay Catholic forever. It's a question of whether or not your a practicing Catholic or not. Just thought I'd mention that.

I respect the Catholic Church and what is is TRYING to do, but like many book religions today it is taking away the gifts that our creator gave. Free will and the ability to choose our path. I will attend with my mother, because I respect her and her beliefs, as I respect my husband and his beliefs (not a Catholic), but I choose not to follow book religions and instead do as the Christ had originally done, help others without pushing my beliefs on them. I will not have a church DICTATE how I will act, when, where or how! When something is wrong, I will not condone it and do it anyway because the church says so. That is why I left the Church. Plus I do not speak, nor do I want to speak Spanish! Sorry if that is not politically correct, but it is the truth. I am an American who speaks the language of American - Americanized English! When in a foreign country, I will attempt their language out of respect. Hope this helps you understand.

Because sitting through Sunday Mass is like suffering from temporary narcolepsy.

And 'cause there is no God.
