Matt. 5:48 Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in
heaven is perfect.

You should strive to be perfect. The word perfect in this scripture is
referring to a state of being that consist of growing into complete
maturity of godliness in mind and character, having reached the proper
height of virtue and integrity. Not meaning that you won't ever error or
make mistakes, but it's the mindset of losing yourself for the sake of
Christ and your will, being secondary to his. Once you lose your own
will, there is room for his perfect will. This causes you to behave,
think, and act "perfect" in the sight of God and keeps you from constantly
disappointing yourself and God with childish, selfish actions.
Understand people of God, we are living in a selfish era. Many pastors have
erred from the faith and falling away to their own selfish motives. They
want to build monumental buildings and live lavish lifestyles to model
the so called successes of the world. Do you know what this does? Once
their selfish ambitions are reached and publicized through promotion and
the media, the people under them, that are insecure or have personal
affirmation issues, will seek to accomplish what they see them
accomplishing and it causes the body of Christ to seek selfish ambitions rather
than the perfection of God

Pastors, leaders and the entire five-fold ministry is here for the
perfecting of the saints, not the riches of the world! We as carriers of
the Gospel are to teach and preach sound doctrine to cause people to grow
and become perfect in the sight of the Lord. We should not be
producing dumb sheep that can't understand the bible but rather chase their own
self gratifying wants and needs. You should be able to one day look
back and see how far God has brought you spiritually instead of always
staying in the same place, wishing you had not done what you keep doing
and have been doing for years. Where's the perfection? God is not saying
that you will never error, but what he is saying is that it is
imperative that you move forward in your knowledge of him and His Word. You
must grow saints of God and you must not get caught up in self serving
typed ministries that only appeals to your flesh.

Lets stick with the scripture here: ok?
"And He Himself gave some to be apostles, some prophets, some evangelists, and some pastors and teachers, for the equipping of the saints for the work of ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ, till we all come to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to a perfect man, to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ" As long as we stick with the word, men and women in error the Father will take care of that. Our job is to go about our Fathers business not Tom, Dick, and Harrys.

You really don't like wealthy Christians as if God has nothing to do with their blessings. Some are wealthy because of selfish ambition but I must respectfully disagree that all wealthy preachers or Christians are that way because of their selfishness. Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Joseph, Daniel, Job, etc. were all very very wealthy. However I don't think material gain is our objective as Christians - God did not save us to make us millionaires. But He has blessed some pastors and Christians.

I used to find my security in MY "striving to be perfect or mature in Christ." I've since repented of that and am resting in the work of Christ. I now find my security in His work and therefore pressing on in Christ as Paul talked about in Philippians. Pressing on is a joy, not a heavy, exhausting thing.

Striving being the key word here.
I do strive for excellence.
I leave the perfection part to God.
Only after the Resurrection (the redemption of the body) will we reach this level of perfection.
In everything we do,we should do as unto the Lord with a spirit of excellence.

Yes, BUT perfection is not possible down here, because that would also mean that you had succeded in getting rid of the "original sin" that is in you/your heritage.

However stiving for it is the best means of assuring your place in Heaven! Howevr we could have done without the sermonising for what was basically a simple question!

Perfection isn't obtainable and hence ought to no longer be strived for. human beings ought to attempt to be as close to to perfection as obtainable with the intention to make their targets/needs/targets come actual. regardless of if that is obtainable to be ideal in a sense. human beings might want to be completely well-known with the intention to talk. perchance being ideal is the flexibility to sense free even regardless of the truth that one isn't ideal.

I try...but i can be "very trying" at times.

I fall short of the glory of God, and rejoice, that He forgives me, and enables me to try again!

I should be harder on myself, but I know how it is to see a baby take it's first steps and fall. It cries for shame, but my tears are from joy!

God loves us to try to walk in his way, and wants us not to "beat ourselves up" for not being perfect yet.

We will be perfect, when we meet Him over yonder. Just try (and try again), and He is pleased.

God judges the heart!!!

I strove for perfection when I was young, ambitious and ignorant.

Now, I just do the best I can.
