can you do both at the same time? I'm in the process of losing weight but I've also been doing 300 crunches every day. Yesterday, I noticed two little abs at the top of my belly but my lower belly was poking out. I'm assuming it is because I haven't burned off enough lower belly fat yet but I really don't like how it's poking out now. Should I stop doing the crunches until I've burned off enough fat?

There's no reason to stop doing the crunches; although, you will not be able to see your abs until you rid the excess body fat.

You are just that much more ahead once you get rid of the fat instead of having to wait to get your abs toned. You sound like you are doing a great job on getting your body in shape and you actually know what you are doing.

Congratulations and Good Luck!!!

Another thing is that you have to realize that you have muscle underneath your fat. So you do in fact need to keep burning that fat, however, there is no reason to stop trying to obtain nmuscle. Just remember it has a lot to do with your diet. Crunches work the upper abs, so find another exercise that works the lower abs.

Exercise burns calories (fat) and builds muscle so you are doing both at the same time. You cant really burn fat off a specific body part. If you are only getting muscles in 1 area you need to start doing exercises for other areas of your body. Activities like walking & swimming will burn off fat all over.

Exercise strengthens muscle and cutting back on caloric intake allows you to use the fat you have and loose weight.
Muscles do grow when you exercise them. Try rotating your exercise to work on other areas of you body.

Keep on your diet, eats lots of fruits and veggies, limited meat or (no meat) NOTHING FRIED. And if it is white don;t put it in your mouth. Lots of plain wonderful water.

Lots of luck. You didn't get where you are fast and you will not fix it fast. If you lose more than 2/3 lbs a week you are loosing water and that is not good and will come back.

A lot of it has to do with your diet too. But if you want to sculpt lower abs, you need to do flutter kicks. Crunches mostly work the upper abs.
