Hello,
I am planning to stay in Bangkok (or Bangkok area) from 1st February, 2008 till 27th May, 2008.
I have been researching and looking around for a while, but there is SO much information, and it differs a lot. So I decided to ask you guys here.
My goal is to find the cheapest option for my plan:
- Live 3 months in Bangkok (or the area);
- Access to the Internet;
- To be sure that my stuff won`t get stolen from my home;
- A gym fairly close;
- Not-complicated access to the city center.
That`s all I need. Maybe someone of you will know the particular place?! What type of accomodation I should look for (maybe apartment)?
And...
- As I`ve heard that in Bangkok there are available very high quality formal suits for real bargain prices, where should I look for such a place?
Thank you everyone.
Thank you

There are a number of Serviced Apartments that include a change of linen daily, vacuuming and general cleaning.

Unfortunately real estate in Thailand and Bangkok is not too organized. Owners don't want to list exclusively with one agency nor one realtor.

There was one apartment, Thanatawee Apartments, very reasonably priced. A 3 blocks from the Rama IX station for the subway. It's behind the Fortune Mall, which has a Tesco/Lotus market, many eateries, a hotel, and many shops and offices. The ride to Sukhumvit is maybe 8-10 minutes to the Sukhumvit Station of the BTS Skytrain. There is no internet connection at the apartment, it does have a small gym. There is a "internet cafe" on the second floor for 10 baht for 10-15 minutes or something like that. It was the most reasonably priced compared to some of the others. It's away from the noise and smell of Sukhumvit.
Most of the serviced apartments are a walk to a BTS Skytrain station or to the Subway. Most are located away from them actually. Many are located adjacent or in conjunction with a hotel.
I considered this one since it was away from Sukhumvit and was relatively close to the subway and had the Tesco/Lotus so close. Tesco/Lotus is like a Walmart in the United States, just a bit smaller, food, clothes, hardware, etc.
Personally, I would stay somewhere near as many facilities as possible, transportation, food, market, etc.
Good luck.

1. From in the US you can get 2 60 day Tourist visas and get a 30 day renewal at immigration for each one that gives you 6 months with only having to exit the country once. 2. You can get a 1 year non-immigrant o visa .. Its a pain to get. but once gotten you dont have to leave the country and if you get a multiple entry visa you can come back again within 1 year from the end of your first 6 months. I was planning on a 6 months stay and used a multiple entry non immigrant O Visa - just have to check in every 90 days. The rules change in Thailand so check the Thai embassy online before you do anything. Good Luck Gerry

Most apartments require a two months deposit on an apartment here. I would try a service apartment lots of them located throughout the city some even have wireless Internet, fitness centers and swimming pools. All are furnished with cable TV and some with kitchen units.Google service apartments in Bangkok. cost about 18,000 to 35,000 baht a month. all have security guards for what they are worth.

Your accommodation could be ambassador hotel or Rembrandt hotel. You could also try out somerset hotel. Some of these hotels also have availability of Internet(Rembrandt surely has). Apartments can be pretty expensive hotels are better. Hotels are better. In these hotels the food is delicious. Those apartments mentioned above are service apartments. You could also visit malls like WTC(world trading center-central). There are many brochures and other advertising things at the airport itself. You could book your transport there.
Happy to help;-)

Don't worry about the internet, it is cheap in Thailand. about 20 baht in the outskirts and 60 in centre for one hour.
What is your budget for staying in Apartment and who is paying? PM me gsweeten@yahoo.com
You can get a nice condo for 3,500 baht a month with a deposit of 6,000 baht but know you will not get your deposit since you never stayed 6 mnths so works out average 7,500 baht a month. I just moved into one in Nonthaburi very close for express bus 522 to victory monument and then to skytrain.

Bangkok is great, you will have a blast. Go visit Pat Pong, and steer clear of drugs!
