is there a save the fresh milk petition or something similar, I just read they are trying to make UHT milk 90% of the milk sold in shops and supermarkets because of the cows giving off gases that destroy the ozone layer, I don't like the taste of UHT milk and only use it as an emergency backup, Cornflakes just won't be the same without Fresh milk!

You heard right -- fresh milk is being looked at to reduce carbon emissions.

However it is not the cows farts that are the problem (both types of milk comes from cows).

Fresh milk requires far more care - particulalry refrigeration - which consumes power.

Even in France (with all its yummy unpasturised cheeses), most of the milk sold is uht (95.5%) - here in the UK 93% is fresh.

We are out of step with europe and usually when that happens we get stomped on to get in line :-(.

I don't know how you can taste the difference. I use UHT because I don't use much milk so it's convenient as I don't have to keep going to the shop to buy fresh. Nobody I have given UHT milk to has ever commented on it, even when I have told them it's UHT. You must have extremely sensitive tastebuds to be able to tell the difference!!

UHT is the most awful stuff. Only fresh milk is worth drinking. I use skimmed because I don't like the greasy taste of full cream but no way would I use UHT.

If there's a petition somewhere I'll sign it.

It is not only in the Philippines where UHT is also called fresh. It is classified as fresh because the milk, fresh and unadulterated, was simply subjected to ultra high temperature to keep longer.

I prefer UHT milk, mostly because the convenience. I only have just 2 pints open at any time, it lasts so long I can buy a whole box and not have to run out for a long time.

Fresh is best.
Do they ever think about the farmers - I think not. If they UHT all the milk, less people will want it because it's yuk and it will destroy the farmers' livelihood.
