Why do you reject thousands of other religious texts?
The only one you think is true is the one your parents told you was true . Coincidence?
Nobody has ever provided any evidence that any gods, much less a specific god, exist. People believe in specific gods because of indoctrination from an early age, tradition, hallucinations, fear of torture (for gods sadistic enough to threaten it) and other similarly illogical reasons. But no gods exist in reality; these are all stories, created for people who were scared of the world long before we understood it. Now we have no more reason for these superstitions.

>why do people reject the bible?
Why do you reject the Koran, the Mahabharata, the Torah and the Daozang?
>everything in there is symbolism and is debatable, thats what being a christian is al about. Its about debate, if you want to know the truth behind the bible just lok it up online rather than saying its all bullshit and just throw it away. Why dont you just look the things up and debate with us? instead of throwing it away.
If I take you correctly, you're asking us atheists to argue about whether different parts of the Bible are meant literally or metaphorically. This is sort of like arguing about which parts of Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire are meant literally or metaphorically. The truth of the matter is, both the Bible and the Harry Potter books are stories, they don't contain any useful truths whether you take them literally or metaphorically.
That said, when it comes to debating whether the Bible makes sense at all, we atheists have actually done a considerable amount of that. Don't believe me? Have a look at this interesting list:

OK, why was David forced to circumcise a bunch of dudes as a dowry? Is that symbolic of a kind and loving God?
How did a fish eat a man and he live?
How did the world flood when there isn't enough frozen water to do it, and water being forced from below ground to add to it would make the atmosphere inhospitable for life? Also, where's the geological proof?
How can theories on evolution be so easily tossed aside for creationism when similar creatures are found on different continents, similarities exist across genus/species, and fossils point towards likely transitions?

If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I am a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal.
- 1 Corinthians 13:1
People reject the word of God just because of the way some Christians act and speak to non-believers.
Who wants to read the book of a clanging symbol?

christianity is all about debate? we're talking about a deity that's going to chunk you in a lake of fire for disagreeing with him. think about that.
i know the bible so well, i usually don't have to look things up unless it requires a verse. anywhoo. i'm all for debate. let's do it.
the reason people reject the bible, is because frankly, it's not a very believable story. read the old testament. the deity is clearly modelled after a dictator.

The problem is that there are hundreds of different versions of the bible, dozens of different denominations of Christianity, and people that take the Bible's words literally even though it is impossible because they vary from version to version. This gets discouraging for someone who wants to debate logically, because there are so many factors that have to be considered before one can even begin.

the bible is a collection of stories, there are more story's of the same people by the same authors about god that didn't make the cut ,the catholic Constantine put it together
farther more most of them are story's of older gods just rewrote to suit Christan's
you need to learn history
Gilgamesh=the older story of god up to and including the flood
(only difference is the serpent was changed to the devil, instead of being god)
Hercules, the man, the god ,the savior
he was half man half god and went around saving the helpless people from evil gods
isn't that basically the same story as jesus just missing a virgin birth,is there some copyright infringement going on here

Most of the debate in here my friend is not between atheist and christian, it is between fundamentalist who insist on a literal interpretation of the bible and those of those who view the bible as allegorical. We haven't thrown the book away--we simply do not worship the book like the fundie bibliolators.

It is presented as the infallible, inspired word of god. Therefore if it has errors or contradictions it can not be infallible or inspired, and not a trustworthy source of information. Then there is the little detail of evidence or the complete lack of.
Basically this adds up to it being a collection of stories or myths. Why would I believe in its god, when there are so many others to choose from?

I have done my research, from reading the Bible many times, to reading other historical texts. I have concluded that the Bible is full of hate and lies. Anyone who has read the Bible, as opposed to what their Priest, Pastor, etc..spoon feed them, will understand that the Bible is full of lies and hatred.
With that being said, I am open to debate any aspect of the Bible.
