I agree.
Religion is also tied to the crime and violence we see in the US as apposed to other, more secular countries.
It should be no surprise that the most violent countries in the world are also the most faithful and religious.

To start with, you effing moron, "white trash" were in existence BEFORE the Civil War, and still are around today. "White trash" are generally NOT religious. Many do claim to be Christian, but most haven't seen the inside of a church in years. Of those that can read, not many actually own a book. "White trash" are characterized by dropping outr of school at the earliest possible age, getting married at "shotgun weddings", and thinking that they are superior to black people (they are not superior, but they think they are).
Also, "white trash" have a tendency to hold low-paying dead-end jobs... if they hold a job at all. For this reason,. you can hardly call a "white trash" materialistic.
You are obviously a Yankee who has never met a "white trash" family. If you give me your address, I will gladly send you all that I can round up.
And as a Christian, I am not depressed. On the contrary, most people who I see caliming to be Athiests are actually rather diull and depressed. And your definition of being an Athiest is also flawed. Being a non-Christian does not make you an athiest.
Athiests believe that there is no higher power at all. There are many people who believe in God in some form or aniother who are not Christians.
Get you facts straight, especially before you piss off another Southerner by confusing "white trash" with religious groups.

I'm Christian and I'm not depressed. In fact, the closer I feel to God, the happier I feel. Also, Catholics are Christians, and there are a lot of both in China and Europe. The belief that we are all inherent sinners isn't a depressing thought if you couple it with the belief that since Jesus died for our sins, we are forgiven for those sins and don't have to worry about going to hell when we die. All in all, no reason to be depressed!
BTW, you never showed any proof, you just ranted. I'll pray for you.

I don't think that, a good pole of the percentage of athiests exist. Since the definition of God or a Higher power can be hard to pose. A lot of people, if asked, might believe in Einstein's defintion of God. One would have to do quite a study to link depression with belief. Most people feel better because of their Religion, and would feel so much worst if you denied them access to their religious community. Now what might be true, is that we live in a very depressing society because of its excessive emphasis on success and materiallism, and that people are desperate for Religion, even if it is one that is somewhat abusive to their soul.

I would challenge the actual status of those "depressed" people that call themselves believers. One who has a true relationship with Jesus Christ (the real definition of a Christian) will not be depressed, it is impossible. The depressed people are those who have no hope. Jesus IS hope, so if one is so depressed all the time, I would question if they really know Jesus. I was depressed in my no hope state until I met Jesus in a personal way. He took away my depression.
You should know that not everyone displaying a label is actually in the category. My personal experience, watching those around me would lead to the opposite conclusion that you came to. I believe that your test groups are inaccurate.

Interesting, but like anything else is there any reason or evidence to link depression with religious belief? We could also attribute it to a sexually repressed society especially as the media portrays a high level of sex creating a large schism. We also have less holidays... the list of potential casual factors goes on.
From personal experience, I'm much happier being atheist, and much more in tune with my morals.

lol yes we're all sinners, and yes we may be temporarily dismayed, but yet a few passages later in the bible it talks about how we can be forgiven, so why should we be upset any longer??
That was a pathetic attempt at dissing religion in general. Please take your 'white-trash' ideals back to wherever you came from.
Note: you may think a lot of problems involving religion spark in the US, but thats because the media fails to accurately report other problems in more remote areas of the world. I live in INDONESIA, THE LARGEST MUSLIM COUNTRY IN THE WORLD, there are constantly problems between muslims vs everyone else..
AND YES WE WANT TO SEE YOUR SOURCES

Thanks for your spiel , but it's anything but proof.
My next door neighbor was born and raised in China , I have difficulty conversing with him because he speaks really poor English. The one thing that I'm very sure of , is he wouldn't agree with your statement about the Chinese . He said he wouldn't go back under any circumstance. You don't know what depression means until you talk to him .

Faith can lead to happiness as well. Many people live very happy lives and have faith. Besides that atheists have faith in other things besides a Higher Power. they have faith in themselves and people and sometimes sciences and laws.
When you are walking down the street you don't flinch at every car that passes by do u? that is faith that the car and the driver are not going to hit you.
If someone was truly faith deprived and believed in nothing (as atheists claim to be), they would be a very unhappy person indeed

That's not proof. There are hidden variables you need to account for. For example, in the U.S. we frequently categorize people as depressed and give them medication when those same people in other places wouldn't be considered depressed.
Atheists as a group aren't any happier than Christians as a group.
I'm an atheist, if it matters.

where do you get your statistics, that is the most ridiclous thing that i have ever heard. and how can you sit there and arrogantly call all christians white trash. i'm a christian and i'm perfectly happy, because i know where i'm going when i die, and i know that god is taking care of me while i'm down here on earth. depression comes from the devil, in his attempts to try and hurt us, thats not from the belief in god. i guess we will see how happy atheists are when they stand before the one and only god. god bless.
