Someone who was a Baptist posted a question about what the Catholic Mass was like. - http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=AsgQ.DlzOUwF.YIvaNewbFnsy6IX;_ylv=3?qid=20071017015049AAPbQIw&show=7#profile-info-xUbdHLo1aa Of the 19 responses, 7 were hostile to the Catholic faith. One "Baptist" warned that "the devil might tempt you into the catholic system" and suggested that he pray so "God will strengthen your will power and not give into the devil."
I posted the same question as a Catholic interested in going to a Baptist Church - http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=AnaviUIzeYrvvYtm7BoyLzvsy6IX;_ylv=3?qid=20071017071505AA4jL4E Of the 17 replies, only two were critical of the Baptist church and it was in response to a comment about bringing Bibles to church
The fruits of the Holy Spirit are love, kindness, goodness, and gentleness. Why were these fruits missing from the answers of some of the non-Catholic Christian answers?

I will fully admit that there are catholics who bait non-Catholics christians and I know that I have been guilty of this. These are also examples of peopple NOT being led by the Holy Spirit
I posted this because it really bothered me that some non-Catholic Christians used the opportunity of a person asking a sincere question about the Catholic Mass to disrespect the Catholic Church.
My apologies to you if I have offended you.

whitehorse,
The criticism was not aimed at you personally. You have been respectful even when we have disagreed

it's true, jesus said the test of a true prophet was by their fruits. he also said that a false prophet was like a briar of thorns. you can't get up near one without being pierced for it. Is that what you're getting at?

I know some Bible thumpers and we get along fine. The computer brings out the worst in people just like the steering wheel.
As far as a Catholic Mass, to get the full Catholic experience you gotta live it. Yes there is deeper spirituality but also a culture that some view as decadent others benign others fun.
Check out a Catholic High School and their athletic teams, note the alumni allegiance, That is just one aspect. Consider bingo and all that other schmaltzy stuff. Consider the food with all the people who's' names end in vowels a "y" or have "z" in their last name. That's tasty gatherings.
Don't sweat it.

I have been to many Catholic services as a non-Catholic (as my wife's family is largely Catholic) and do feel the Spirit of the Lord there too. There are many good things to say about Catholicism. I apologize if I have not spoken in the right spirit when I have confronted Catholics in the past on this site regarding the things I consider to be a distortion of the Scriptures by Catholicism and its traditions (I am surely guilty of this to some extent).

I don't have a religion but I agree with what you say. Although I don't believe in God, I have a strong spiritual sense. I hope to give up shopping, it's something I've become addicted to and I'll feel much better about myself if I can go 40 days without it and focus on other things in my life that are more important in the long run. I also want to make Lent a time of doing more positive things for the world around me.

I can only speak for myself. I believe when God talks about One Church or His Bride, he is referring to all people who believe in Him and are living by His Word.( Which includes a lot.) You are right, the fruits of the Holy Spirit are LOVE, kindness, gentleness, and goodness. Love being the greatest of all. I hope not all of your answers have appeared that way from non-Catholic Christian, because I would hate to fall in that group. I'm not perfect by any means, but striving to be more Christ-Like. :)

First of all, may I apologize on behalf of my fellow protestants (though I claim no denomination). We have often acted in error. May I also ask, though, why so many Catholics so often post questions here totally dissing 'fundies' --- I guess they are meaning people of the evangelical bent who believe the Bible cover to cover. I keep seeing this, and it bothers me, because why would a Catholic or any other Christian *not* want *all* Christians to believe the entire Bible and all that God says? It doesn't matter how odious a Catholic finds evangelicals to be, personally. Think about the deeper issue, I mean it.
Both sides are absolutely *shaming* the name of Christ. I repent. I hope that both sides can stop at the very least picking at and making fun of each other. Do we realize how this trivializes our Lord in the eyes of unbelievers?

I think it has to do with the fact that Protestantism was created in violent opposition to the Catholic church way back when. As a result, Protestants will often attack Catholics (at least on the internet) to this day, while giving other Protestants a "pass".
I'm sorry you keep running into idiots.

Well,I guess because Protestantism is Catholicism minus
and according to the paricular Protestant church tradition some are minus a little and some are minus alot.
I guess that they see their reason-for-being is to protest issues of past centuries and that seems to be the protest in their Protestantism
Profound negativity is usually a sign of profound insecurity.
Many know only the negative and usually false stereotypes of Catholics and they come from that.
Others have "personal issues" or other motives that often are obvious with some postings.
