I haven't heard this, although I have heard about men in the Coast Guard cheating when they go to certain areas.... EX: my friend's husband.
I have a friend who just recently got home and is getting ready to go back, he said that they barely had time to do anything and looked forward to every letter he got from his girlfriend. Don't worry.

It goes both ways. There are incidents of spouses at home cheating AND spouses deployed cheating. There was a female soldier that was sent back to the states because she got pregnant w/another married soldier's child. So, it does happen unfortuantely. But same thing goes on back here in the states.
What happened to the LOVE? =(

Ok I'm going to try to answer your question from what I learned from news sources, yahoo answers, and my male relatives who have served.
First my husband enlisted and went away and is currently in training in the Army. It was a difficult process for him to enlist. They checked for a criminal history (he has none), and he had to have graduated from high school. Do you know how difficult it is to graduate? Not all who start out finish. That means that the soldiers who are currently serving are the best youth out there. It is unikely that any of them will cheat on their spouses or girl friends.
Now the soldiers in Iraq live a highly regulated life. They are never alone. Even if they wanted to cheat they can't. As a previous answerer said it is probably more of a problem if a spouse or gf cheats back home.
Men have certain needs to relieve the buildup of fluids. This usually starts with them in adolescence. I know my husband was lucky to have me around when we were both still teenagers (we'll actually we still are we're both 18 lol lol) and I helped him in a non sexual way but a soldier can still do that when he is in the privacy of his room. Just hope you are the one he's thinking about at those moments lol lol.
Hope this answers your question.

No, most are faithful. There are just a few of those lower level life forms that do cheat. Though there is very little free time to do so. So they tend to ruin the good name of faithful soldiers by their actions.

I don't think there are any women to be unfaithful with in Iraq other than other soldiers and if they get caught doing that they go to the brig.

I have heard of cases (in my husbands company) of soldiers hookin' up with fellow female soldiers in their platoons, etc...
My husband on the other hand, says that he goes out of his way to avoid any contact at all with the female soldiers on post where he is stationed.
His MOS does not allow female service members, so it's not like he's avoiding anyone that he needs to work with.
It's not that he doesn't trust himself... it's just so easy for rumors to get started... then quickly make their way back to the states & be blown totally out of proportion.

Is it really so common to find spouses of both sexes unfaithful in all walks of life and not just the Military.

There have been a few incidents.
Most of the soldiers are behaving though a few ruin it for all.
