I love candles and have them all over my house. A part of me wants to burn my unity candle and have it set out along with my other candles (not on the unity stand, just out like a regular candle)...should I just keep it whole and in a keepsake box, or is it okay to burn it and set it out with my other candles?

My husband and I also lit a large candle in memory of loved ones who have passed away... same questions apply to this candle

Thanks for the help!

I agree buy another candle to burn now and save your unity candle to light on your anniversaries or to save for your daughter.

You are suppose to burn your unity candle every year on your anniversary. Now that doesn't mean that it needs to go up in a box somewhere and never be seen. I see nothing wrong with keeping it out yearround but I wouldn't burn it just any day like any old candle. Ours is set out right beside one of the wedding pictures. We have a lot of candles out but this is only one sheltered and surrounded by photos.

As for the candle in memory--thats up to you. Anytime you think of that person, on any important dates (like their birthday or Christmas). After all the memory candle (unlike the unity candle which honors the moment in time you became husband and wife) did not have a special place of honor. It was bought after they passed and is in memory of their life. So burning it only on the day they died is more honoring the death than the life.

My husband and are also candle lovers but we have kept our unity candle in tact and use others. It is up to the both of you. If there is no real sentimental value, burn away ...

Hmmm...good question.

I would just light the unity candle on our annv.
As for the memory candle, I would light it whenever I wanted to. I would place that candle somewhere special though.

if you don't care than go ahead but it might be nice to have it as a keepsake, or for when your children get married they can use it, i would maybe go and buy another unity candle and burn that one instead and keep your original :)
