Pretty much everywhere you look, from right after the hurricane until now, volunteer church groups are in 100 degree heat and 100% humidity, replacing roofs, rebuilding houses, clothing, feeding, paying for utilities and appliances and just generally meeting the needs of those in dire straits. They supply the money, materials and manpower for the work. They live in tents and campers, use family vacations ...
There really aren't any non church groups noticably active.
Can anyone tell me of some non church groups or individuals active in this or other such American disasters?
Please be specific.

I have been to the gulf coast twice this year, my church stays at Lakeshore miss. rebuildlakeshore.com. Now all the organizations do there may be secular by name but make no mistake the Christians are the ones do the work. My church did some work for habit for humanity. I know of other churches that have worked for salvation army and red cross, fema is pathetic. All those trailors down there now have to be destroyed because of some kind of fungis growing in them. I know because I was just there Oct 12. You are exactly right without the churches people in Gulf coast would all be homeless and a lot of them still are because still more volunteers are needed. Great question!!

Red Cross is providing shelters.

There are humanitarian efforts underway by actors/actresses/singers who live in Louisianna.

Unicef is providing medicine and supplies.

Fema is providing assistance with housing.

As for church groups, most of the groups you are referring to are public-assisted grant fellowships that volunteer in association with Habitat for Humanity and the Red Cross.
