I visit a tanning salon and use the beds every two or three days and sometimes tan upto 4 times a week on the beds. I have been doing this for awhile now as I tan all year long. I am almost 38 years old. Today dropping off my daughter and some of her friends at high school and they commented on how I am starting to look more mature and older than I really am saying I look more in my early 40s because of my bumpy like skin and face texture . I was wondering if I may have some premature aging from tanning and would be happy to get some advice. Here is my photo, do you think I look more my age, or do the girls have a point and I do look older? thank you for reading and your comments. http://i241.photobucket.com/albums/ff102/svri/clairehair.jpg

You should never tan your face in a tanning bed, your face is in the sun everyday. I would suggest, if you're gonna use a tanning bed only use it in the summer, the rest of the year you should use a tanning lotion, they have several ones that work good (and why do u need to be tan in the winter??). Dont forget about the skin cancer tanning bed cause (they r much worse than the sun)

Based on your picture alone, I can't really tell if there is skin damage, because the picture is kind of grainy itself. I do have a opinion about tanning beds. I have some friends, family, and acquaintances who visit the tanning bed so much, they ended up looking a lot older. I used to tan all the time, but got out of it after I saw what it was doing to other girls my age. Some people blame the special lotion itself causes damage because they make the skin tan faster. I think going there more then 4 times a week @ perhaps 20 minutes a day or longer is too much. I could send you some pictures of a girl that got addicted to tanning beds, you can see major difference in her skin. Just email me.

I dont know what they are talking about! From the pic you gave us you look pretty young. You definitely dont look like your in your early 40's. But tanning does have an effect on most peoples skin & can make your skin look worn out & more wrinkled. You can either stop tanning or when you go tanning cover your face with a towel then just use a self tanning lotion on your face to match the rest of your body. And to reverse some of the damage you can go to a dermatologist to get a chemical peel & facial. I hope this helps! Good Luck :)

I think you look fine. You have to really take what kids say with a grain of salt. You might consider slacking off from the tanning bed a little during the winter, since most people aren't tan anyway. I cut back to once a week in the winter. Then around Feb I start going three times then cut it down to twice for awhile.

You definitely don't look like you are 38 years old let alone in your early 40s. I wouldn't tan my face in a tanning bed personally. Find a good moisturizer and use that and see if that helps your skin. I am 44 and use any moisturizer by Elizabeth Arden. What do high school girls know anyway??? You look great. Good Luck :-)

You look great overall, but your skin is starting to look a little scary.

I would say it is time to say bye to the tanning beds. Take the money you would save and treat yourself to a nice rejuvenating facial and some nice moisturizing SPF product.

I am only 25, but I was a sun-worshipper in my teens. I can already see my skin declining. I think a lot of that has to do with genetics more than anything else, but STILL, tanning is out, and protecting your skin is in.

Put on sunscreen every day and embrace beautiful, natural pale skin. Embrace the skintone you were born with.

I do think the girls might be right - you can pass for early forties and barely for late 30's. You can tell around your neck and chest area like me. I was doing tanning and didn't even use sunscreen and now I can tell that I started looking older in my creases and wrinkles that develop. It hard to stop going it's such a feel good thing. But I would say for some advice if you decide to still go visit less often no than one a week but any day less than you do is a improvement and make sure to use sunscreen. Drinks lots of water to stay hydrated, eat veggies for antioxidants and a good eye and face cream (make sure to use it on neck and chest) and exercise to looking good and healthy.

Tanning is horrible for your skin. Number one, it depletes your skin of collagen, the stuff that gives your skin it's plump. Without it, you develope wrinkles a LOT faster. Ever see those old women walking around stop and shop with the leathery skin? It's from tanning.

It depletes your skin and body of vital vitamins and causes cancer.

Stop tanning. It does nothing for you that you can't get somewhere else in a healthier way.

You look your age, and you're lucky you do.

You don't look 40 to me but tanning will cause pre-mature aging. So be careful.

And I'm also 38 and tan several times a week...I better be careful :)

ok, here goes. yes you kinda look older but its not a great pic. and if the girls are telling you that, there is a reason. everyone knows the risks both healthwise and cosmetically you take when you get in the tanning bed. my sister has done it for years and looks older than my mom, i don't tan and am 31 and get carded buying smokes and drinks. you should be educated enough to make the decision of tanning or not and if you are going to do it knowing the risks dont get upset when you get comments like that.
