i got a ticket for "failure to stop at a stop sign" which i did stop, but he said i stopped passed the stop line...anyways i had never recieved a courtesy notice so i called to see how much the ticket would be, and they had no record of the violation...is that possible... it was had passed a month when i called so i knew they would have the info by now, but they had nothing...

is there times when cops don't turn them in or misplace them?

i don't want to not do anything and then i get in trouble for not paying it.

Somewhere on the citation, it should state exactly what to do. If you can not get an answer by phone, go to the court house in person. Make sure you are keeping a record of who you speak to. Police Officers are responsible for their citation books. The book have to be signed for, and all tickets are numbered.

If you received a ticket you do not get a "courtesy notice". The ticket is your notice. It will contain a court date and instructions to pay. if you are unable to make payment arrangements by the court date, go to court.

Go in to the place where you can pay the ticket. Offer to pay the ticket. If they say there is no ticket, ask her name and record the name of the clerk, and the time. Let her se you do this. If she wont give her name write that on the piece of paper.

Then when they "find it" later and tell you you're late just pull out the piece of paper. You may have to go to court. Your case will be dismissed if the bull doesn't show.

A courtesy notice sounds like a warning. If you were not issued a citation you do not have to worry about fines or going to court.

I would wait a couple of weeks just to make sure, and if it doesnt show up the it was your lucky day and the cop had bigger fish to fry.
