Blue is an accepted color in Dobermans, but not in Miniature Pinschers. MPs that are blue are not illegal but just a disqualification since it goes against the breed standard and they cannot be registered.
The person that said that reputable breeders don't breed to get blue Dobermans, that is not necessarily true. Blues are accepted and not at all a mutation as she said. Blues are a true color in Dobermans, just as red, fawn and black. White is a mutation, but not blues. Blues are prone to skin problems but not more health issues than any other color. I know breeders that do not breed the blues because they do have skin issues, but they do not necessarily avoid getting blues in a litter.
The reason blues are uncommon in Dobermans is the same reason fawn is uncommon and that is due to the fact that they are a recessive color. Both parents have to carry the recessive dilute gene to produce blue or fawn pups, but there is nothing wrong with either.

Actually, I think breeding blue coats was banned in Germany, not that it's illegal to have them. It all goes back to the Genotype & phenotypes of genetics. The blue coat has to do with the dog having more of the recessive trait versus the dominant. For example, lets say your eyes were almost a yellow green, but you had a brother, sister, mother, and father with brown eyes. You developed the 25% chance of getting the recessive gene that your mother could have possibly been a carrier of from her mother. It's kind of confusing to really understand genetics. However, I'm not a geneticist so what the hell do I know?! lol

No, this is not true. The main reason one would not want the blue/tan Doberman is because the color is a mutation and the dog will have all kinds of inherited weaknesses. Skin and hair problems, often allergies, and sometimes even more serious problems. Blue in any breed that can produce it is a weaker member of the breed genetically. While there can be some that are just fine, it just isn't worth the risk of the health problems to deliberately produce the blue in the breeds that can produce the color.
There is a reason that they are not common, it's because reputable breeders do not deliberately produce them. They just inherit too many problems and the chances of having dogs that suffer lifelong problems isn't worth it just to have this color.

They will NOT be permit ed to compete in the show ring in the US butt they are allowed in UK. beyond that they are not illegal to own or breed and the WILL be registerable, however being that it is an ndesirable color few reputable breeders will have blues.

I,have a very good friend that has min pins and I'd never had herd of a such thing has having trouble having them around.Just because people are nervice about having them around in their homes docent mean you your self would have to worry about having them in in your home if that that's the kind of dog you want then you don't need to worry about something like that.
