If I buy a GENUINE copy of Vista, but one that has been installed on another PC already; will it activate properly? I'm asured it will, but I would have thought this is the PRECISE reason for the long code you have to put in; to mkae sure it is not registered elsewhere? Otherwise I guess everyone in the world could install from the same CD with the same code and all would work fine and Microsoft would view them all as 'legal'?

HOpe you can help...

The Microsoft Vista license does not allow for multiple copies but does allow for transfer (i.e. installed on computer A, computer A dies, transfer to computer B) but only if the original is no longer in use. The Microsoft Genuine checks will pickup the second copy and invalidate the two installations.

Installing on two computers (unless you have the volume corporate copy - legally licensed of course) is illegal.

if you bought windows vista from someone that allready installed it then it wont work. What you must do is click on help or make a phone call to microsoft and tell them you bpought windows Vista from "whoever" and you need a new key to activate your Windows Vista.
I've done it

I would say it is unlikely to work.

You can try to install and see what happens, but I wouldnt hold out too much hope.
