Christians go to church to worship corporately. This is something that is essential to worship. Our primary reason for going to church is not for what we get out of it. It's to worship God together.
Also, it is good to have a community of believers to strengthen you. People are meant to associate with each other - to have a fellowship.
I'll use a common illlustration...
Imagine the church being like a bonfire. The pieces of wood collectively keep the fire going for all the other pieces of wood. If you pull a piece of wood out and leave it by itself somewhere, it will quickly be extinguished.
It is not a sin to not go to church, but you shouldn't go to church because you have to. You should go because you feel you need to... for both of the reasons above.

It is said that where more than one is gathered you'll find strength, so they are suggesting if you are a christian going to church is a must to make you stronger in christ and fellowship with others like you (christians). Personally I don't think its necessary today because they are so many hypocrites there, I would rather stay home and serve god than go to church, your wisdom and knowledge lies in reading your bible and meditating on the words, which requires you being alone and concentrating on god. If you read the bible you will see that every time jesus goes to his father he finds a lonely spot where there is no one around to speak to him and gain strength. Let this help you to understand that going to church doesn't help your belief , you do....

If you don't go to church, it means you don't believe in church, not that you don't believe in G-d.
If you believe in the G-d of the Original Testament, go to a synagogue. If you believe in the god of the christians, go to a church. If you believe in the god of the Quran, go to a mosque.
It's a myth that all gods are the same one god. There's no fence-sitting when you are a mono-theist.

If you do not feel the need to go to Church that is a problem. You are either not born again or you have unconfessed sin in your life. If you are saved you should enjoy going to Church. Sunday is my favorite day of the week. I get such a peace and a comfort from being in Gods house with all my brothers and sisters in Christ. Its like having a warm blanket wrapped around you. Have you ever accepted Jesus as your Lord and Saviour? Have you confessed your sins to him and admitted you need a Saviour? Our sins seperate us from God. Romans 3:23, For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God. If you have not been saved you can today if you feel the conviction of the Holy Spirit upon you, just say Dear Jesus, I know and confess that I am sinner in need of salvation. I believe you died on a cross at calvery and arose from the grave to wash away my sins, I ask you right now to come into my heart and save me, I pray this Prayer believing in the name of Jesus Amen. If you prayed this prayer with a sincere heart you are now a child of God, rejoice that your name is written in the Lambs book of Life. Jesus will now send his Holy Spirit to come and live in your heart and guide you into all truth. If you have any questions just send me an email, God Bless YOU!!

You have to do more than just believe in God...the devil believes in God.....
You have to make your mind up to accept Christ into your heart. Once you're LIVING for God, going to church won't be a question to you like this anymore. You'll want to go, and you'll have a desire to go and even a desire to live better & do better..............all for God.

Going to church helps you. It strengthens you. You can learn there from your pastor and from your fellow Christians. I find if I do not attend church regularly I weaken. Think of church like a gas station. You go there to get your spiritual gas tank refilled. Yes you can be a Christian without going but it is much harder.

Jesus always used the language of community. "A city set on a hill cannot be hidden," he said.
No man is a city. How can you be a light to the world, if you hold your candle all alone in the dark? Come hold it with the rest of us.
