What would god be scared of. I think the only reason you asked this question is because is because you have doubt in your heart about what you believe. The reason God doesn't show himself is because he wants you to have faith in him, and to choose to follow him. You know he is real, why else would you bother asking what others think.

God does show himself constantly.
Just take a look at an ocean, wonder at its beauty when it's calm, marvel at is awesome fury when it storms.
Take a look at a mountain. How grand it is when spring comes. How lovely it is in the fall.
And perhaps his most wonderful creation. Take a look at a newborn child. Life is good. Even with all the worldly problems you can find God everywhere.

There is a story to this answer he told a man who wanted to see him to go to the top of the mountain. So he went and then there was a grate fire, but god was not in the fire. Then there was a grade storm but god was not in the storm. Then there was a earth quake but god was not in the earth quake. But after all this there was silence and he herd a small voice. God was in the silence.
So as u can see god is showing himself but people are afraid of the silence so there practical never is silence so we can rarely here god.

Romans 1:20
20) For since the creation of the world God's invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature—have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that men are without excuse.
I know its hard for non-believers to understand as I myself didn't believe, but when you do ask Jesus into your life you will know and understand that God is real.
The change is from the inside out and you will be a new creation when you make that commitment that's a guarantee.
You will have joy, peace and a whole different outlook on life.
I know I hated and was so consumed with anger and hate but when I accepted Jesus as my savior that instant I literally felt the weight lift off my shoulders and I knew I was a different person.
fam;ily and friends couldn't believe it and as time went on they asked what happened.

I was dead for about 8 hours before I was discovered and as they were about to wheel me to the hospital morgue I sat up and yelled no lord I want to stay in heaven with you while I was dead god spoke to me and said its not your time I am sending you back.
so I did see him face to face and I can provide proof that is dead for at least 4 hours out of the 8 as I was in a psychiatric hospital at the time , that was about 10 years ago If I wanted to I could show you this documentation .
the only way to see the face of God is to die

In my opinion (I'm not God, so I don't know), I believe people would worship His image. The second commandment states "Thou shalt not make unto Me any graven image." If people saw God's face and image, can you imagine how many statues of God would be sold like candy? They'd have daily prayer time around the statues. And then they'd kiss the statue as though it WERE God.
I think God's wise in this decision. Yes, it might help some people to believe, but think about how much damage to the True Faith it would be.

he does show that he is real; look around the world, universe ; in the eyes of people ; we as humans haven't created anything anywhere near ; we can't explain things and constantly change what we think we know; how much more real is there than what you have on your plate daily; be still in the world and listen quietly

I forsee a few types of responses.
1) He has/does. But some refuse to recognize.
2)Because God doesn't exist.
3)It's a test of faith.
4)It would disrupt His plan, whatever it may be.
I reserve the right to have no opinion.

He does! God the Son (Jesus) is physically present in the Body and Blood of the Eucharist.
God shows Himself in other ways, too. It's not His fault that we don't often pick up on His presence.
