Some people say Christians, for example, are bigots because they use the Bible to justify their beliefs that people are not born gay.

I would like to hear your point of view of how Christians are misusing the Bible and what really makes them a bigot.

Thank you, I look forward to some great answers.

Edge I consider myself of a growing Christian. I asked this question because I was confused and wanted to know if others felt the same as me.

Molly, I don't think Christians are misusing the Bible either but I tend to notice homosexuals making that claim. I didn't understand how some of them come to that conclusion.

In answer, read for yourself what the apostle Paul said at 1 Corinthians 6:9, 10: “What! Do you not know that unrighteous persons will not inherit God’s kingdom? Do not be misled. Neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor men kept for unnatural purposes [“male prostitutes,” New International Version; “effeminate,” King James Version], nor men who lie with men [“sodomites,” Jerusalem Bible; “homosexual perverts,” Today’s English Version], nor thieves, nor greedy persons, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners will inherit God’s kingdom.” Note that Paul specifically mentioned those who evidently take on a passive sexual role and those who assume a more active “male” role in their immoral relations. Thus he made it plain that God disapproves of all homosexual acts.

This is also evident from Paul’s words at Romans 1:18-27: “God’s wrath is being revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men who are suppressing the truth in an unrighteous way . . . God, in keeping with the desires of their hearts, gave them up to uncleanness, that their bodies might be dishonored among them . . . That is why God gave them up to disgraceful sexual appetites, for both their females changed the natural use of themselves into one contrary to nature; and likewise even the males left the natural use of the female and became violently inflamed in their lust toward one another, males with males, working what is obscene.” Here Paul specifically condemned both male and female homosexuality. He condemned homosexual practices as unnatural and “obscene.”

However, this does not mean that they can't change. It will be hard for them to do so but it can be done. Read Paul's words at 1 Corinthians 6 v 11 "And yet that is what some of you were. But you have been washed clean, but you have been sanctified...

Wow you sure don't seem to think much of Christians. Whether people are born gay or not does not matter. Either which way it i a sin. I come from a family that has a history of alcoholism. It has been shown that this tendency can be passed down through families. Thus I likely have a tendency towards alcoholism. According to the Bible drunkenness is a sin. I have a tendency towards this sin because of family history and likely genetics. However I know this and thus choose not to drink. I avoid the sin. The same is true if homosexuals are born that way. They can choose to not act upon the homosexual urges and thus avoid sin.

First, let's clarify the Christian view: Homosexual actions are sinful, which means they are deliberately chosen and not preprogrammed. For example, Jesus taught that sexual immorality "comes out of a man" and "makes a man unclean" (see Mark 7:14-23). Paul expanded on the bad choice of homosexuality in Romans 1.

Those who practice or admire homosexuality will go to any length to distort the clear message throughout the Bible that homosexual actions are serious sins. For example, they claim that Sodom was destroyed for insufficient hospitality rather than for homosexuality (pretty serious punishment for not being nice, wouldn't you say?).

Some even claim that Jesus was homosexual because John leaned against him at the Last Supper, a common nonsexual posture for a disciple. Daniel Helminiak argues Jesus approved of homosexuality because he healed the centurian's servant, who Helminiak assumes was a sexual servant.

Like anyone engaged in serious sin, homosexuals find it easier to change their beliefs than to give up serious sin. Unfortunately, they also set out to overthrow the genuine gospel, lest the truth causes them to feel guilt for their sexual promiscuity.

Cheers,
Bruce

my greatest situation is they cherry %. the verses. Take something from right here and there and say it nonetheless holds actual, while something 2 verses over, now no longer applies. leviticus 18:22 You shall no longer lie with a guy as one lies with a female, it truly is an abomination." Leviticus 18:19 "You shall no longer attitude a female to have intercourse along with her whilst she is unclean from menstruation. what share anti-gay christians shop on with that rule? And that some verses earler. They %. and chosen that which they like to maintain on with, and that which they dont. the two shop on with everythign, or no longer something. additionally, Divorce is forbidden in the bible, a lot of anti-gay christians are divorced, yet someway thats grow to be suited too. See how shall we be disenchanted approximately this? If christians themselves cant shop on with their own rules, and/or throw away ones that prepare to them, then it style of feels to me like they're in basic terms conserving around those that they are able to apply to maintain hatred and biggotry alive.

There is no VERSE that states children are born gay or not. There are a handful of verses that point to traits and behaviors. Still, Right-wing Christians only see Scripture through one lens. They have a favorite verse Rev 21:8 they use to justify their own immoral pride before the Holy One. Jesus is not mocked. Their reward is coming in full.

The Bible is silent on whether or not people are "born gay."

What it's not silent about, though, are homosexual ACTS.

Some things are banned by the Old Testament, but not by the New.

Homosexual behavior is different, though -- it's banned by both Testaments.

Thus, it's illogical to compare homosexuality to eating shellfish or other things that are banned in the O.T., in an attempt to justify homosexuality. Because homosexuality, unlike the other "rules," is also banned in the N.T. as well as the Old.

I'm gay, and I'm very proud of it. Reading these stupid responses (basically consisting of "don't act on your gayness!") makes my blood boil.

If the opposite were true, and the Bible said that heterosexuality was a sin, these dumbass fundies would find a way to justify their straightness. You can't turn-off your sexuality.

Fundies make me sick.

Good question, btw.

Homosexual sex is an abomination to the Lord. I have no fear of talking to homosexuals about the sin of homosexual activity in a charitable way. He/she may listen and in so doing I will plant the seed of truth. That's about all I can do. When speaking to gays, I often use alcoholism as an analogy. I tell them an alcoholic has to make a choice:

1) They can say "God made me this way so it must be okay to get drunk"
or
2) I know I'm alcoholic, I know drunkeness is a sin, so I need to check myself.

I apply that same logic to homosexuals: Recognize the wrongness of the activity and don't give in to your weakness. I don't hate homosexuals, just like I hope nobody hates alcoholics. We're all sinners, and we all have particular weakness to a particular sin. The key is to be the master of your weakness and overcome it, and don't buy into the lies of modern society or political-correctness.

I invite you to learn about "Courage" - http://couragerc.net/
"Courage" is an apostolate of the Catholic Church and ministers to those with same-sex attractions and their loved ones. You'll never hear about it in the mainstream media: They have many success stories of people overcoming their same-sex atraction issues, and sometimes even getting married to fellow members of he opposite sex. They are amazing stories - stories which prove wrong the notion that you are just born that way and there is nothing you can do about it.

misuse?

"God created man in his image; in the divine image he created him; male and female he created them." (Genesis 1, 27)

male and female...
it doesn't say "one that's both".

Anyway...
we still respect the difference, the same way we respect different religions.
It's a choice of life.
And we respect that.

I have gay friends and I always respect them.

But when you chose a religion, you chose to respect also the rules: either you're in or out.

You are wrong. Christians are NOT MISUSING scripture. Have you read the Bible? Scripture clearly says being gay is evil. No way around it.
