Certainly not on all of the issues, but the big ones....
..Seperation of Church and State. (Render unto Caesar)
...Feeding the Hungry (Beatitudes)
...Taking Care of the Poor (Beatitutdes)
...Even putting all the economic resources of one group together, and splitting them up equally. (This was mentioned in the bible, as the way the early Christian communities did it)

Awesome answer Evolver. Definitely those guys (Moore/Bush) are not good models of liberalism or conservatism.

YES. Wow, the fundies are going to hate this.
But, as I've often said - Jesus didn't want to be worshiped, he was teaching people how to be like him, just like Buddha.

As a Catholic, I kind of carefully nurture my politics to be neither "liberal" nor "conservative." These are man made labels that no longer even describe what they were originated for - Michael Moore is not a JS Mill liberal, and George Bush is far from being an Edmund Burke conservative.
With that said, I think we do spend too little time paying attention to the political aspects of Jesus' statements. While his message was more focused on the world to come, he gave us his strong feelings about how we're supposed to live in the world we are in.
I think about how he said the widow who put a copper coin in the temple fund gave more than the rich people. Or how he berated aristocracies from denying knowledge and their almsgiving to the poor. Or the way he condemned those who'd turned Jerusalem's temple into a commercial free for all.
We don't pay enough attention to him, even still.

I don't know ifJesus was the first liberal, but sure he was pretty much of a playboy...
... Jesus loved to have his feet extensively kissed by a prostitute in a party at a house in which prostitutes were also invited. He even expected that his male host would do the same to him.
Luke 7:45 (NIV) You did not give me a kiss, but this woman, from the time I entered, has not stopped kissing my feet.
God the Son Jesus Christ was partying all the time. He became aware that he was probably overdoing it because of what "people say".
Luke 7:34 (NIV) (Jesus said) "The Son of man is come eating and drinking; and ye say, Behold a gluttonous man, and a winebibber, a friend of publicans and sinners!"
For the record: Jesus wouldn't sit at a wedding reception unless good wine is served! If the wine runs out he had a way of transforming water into the best wine... To make it a point this is the first recorded "miracle" of God the Son Jesus Christ... First things, first for Chist's sake! The wedding reception in those days ran for days!!!
If you ever wonder where Jesus would spend the nights.... wonder no more... he had A LOT of rich women (not men) serving him and his disciples.
Luke 8:1-3 NIV) After this, Jesus traveled about from one town and village to another, proclaiming the good news of the kingdom of God. The Twelve were with him, and also some women who had been cured of evil spirits and diseases: Mary (called Magdalene) from whom seven demons had come out; Joanna the wife of Cuza, the manager of Herod's household; Susanna; and many others. THESE WOMEN WERE HELPING TO SUPPORT THEM OUT OF THEIR OWN MEANS. (no miracles here! or were they?)
Mark 16:40-41 (NIV) Some women were watching from a distance. Among them were Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James the younger and of Joses, and Salome. In Galilee these women had followed him AND CARED FOR HIS NEEDS. Many other women* (*MANY other women... so Jesus was quite a popular good wine drinking playboy! Let's face it, God the Son Jesus Christ was just another human being like any of us, except that he knew how to be nice to the girls playing the role of God going around forgiving sins! Hey, who doesn't feel guilty anout anything?) who had come up with him to Jerusalem were also there.
So I do agree with you... he must have been a good liberal!

He wasn't the first, but if the accounts are true he was without a doubt a very left-leaning liberal. Amazing how you find so many (vocal) Christians who are nothing like him.

No. He was not. He was the first conservative since He was there before the beginning. Satan was the first liberal.
