What would be a good dish to make her for the first day she is here, she's totally American but has been living in MX for 2 years so I'm not sure if coming home to more Mexican food would be good.

Hasn't she ever mentioned that she misses a certain food that she can't get there?

Here's a novel idea: Ask her what she misses most and make or buy it.

If she was actually Mexican then it would be different as they eat their own type of food every day for the most part. However, to serve an apple pie American Mexican food after being gone for 2 years is just odd.

Please don't do it!!! I am mexican, and 1) what you regard as mexican food is nowhere near the real stuff, 2) when I moved to the states, a lot of people wanted to make me feel at home by buying me "mexican food" and you know, after eating mexican food for so long, just a cheese burger sounded glorious to me. Why not a typical american meal? You know, the corn, mashed potatoes, steak, a peach cobbler???

PS: We don't have gravy in Mexico, I'm betting she misses it like hell.

uhh.....of course! If you were deprivesd from certain foods for a long time and when you went back they gave you the same thing youve been eating for 2 yrs, would you not feel like throwing the plate in the garbage? I know when I travel, when I come back home I want some american food! I dont think shell say something but i recommend doing something else.

It's not that it would be dumb to make her a mexican dish, I just think she might enjoy something from the state that she's from. Something homemade or even store bought that she hasn't had in a very long time...something they make where she lives that couldn't be made as well anywhere else.
Have a good time.
Ps.
I think she'll be happy no matter what she eats because she is with family

I think you should make her an all american meal that you remember her liking 2 years ago when she was living here.

Trust me she has had enough rice to open a rice factory.

I visited puerto rico and Dominican Republic. I stayed 1 week in both places. Both times i came back to the states i couldn't wait to eat American food.

Dont get me wrong, I love spanish food i just missed my American food.

Steak, mashed potatoes, cream corn and buttered bread to dip in the gravy

I bet she'd appreciate any kind of meal, but since she's been eating Mexican for 2 years, I'd make her something a little more traditionally American.

it would probably be okay to serve her a mexican dish like tacos, mexican food is much different in mexico than in the states, i am mexican american and when we go down to mexico we eat at mexican restaurants and the taste is so different from home. i would probably enjoy a pepporoni pizza with a pitcher of pepsi- even that taste different down in mexico!

It's not dumb. In Mexico the food is very plain compared to America Mexican food. She will probably like it. Sometimes is harder to find spices in Mexico that is readily available here.

When I was in Mexico, the food was nothing like what we in the U.S. fix as Mexican food. It's totally different. So either way.
