but he doesn't want to eat the same things everyday. Does anyone have any good ideas?
I was thinking cold-cuts...
He wants to be able to go food shopping once a week and not spend a fortune.
I have a few ideas.

1. Cold-cuts
2. Tuna

I was also wondering about some snacks... Maybe even low-fat, or 100 calorie ideas.

-cans of progresso soup (they come with the pop-top cans so you don't need a can opener)
-tv dinners
-bags of salad (some come with toppings and dressings in the bag)

granola bars are a good 100 calorie snack, as well as rice cakes, crackers, snack-pack puddings, and popcorn.

Skip the pre-packed snacks and make your own in baggies.

Measure them out from the bigger (and probably much cheaper) container, put them in little baggies, and store the little baggies in a big baggie or the fridge or freezer, depending on what it is and how soon he can eat them.

But check out prices when you shop. It's possible that pre-packed snacks with a coupon are cheaper than full price big bags without a coupon. And a full size package of something that goes bad before you can eat it is not really a bargain either.

But lots of things can be used at home when not quite as fresh. For example, carrots and celery that are looking a bit limp - put them in soup or spaghetti sauce or such. Potato chips can go on top of tuna casserole. Dry bread can become french toast or bread crumbs. Apples that are looking a bit limp can be cut up and put in oatmeal or pancakes, or perhaps even a smoothie. You get the drift. Becoming a frugal grocery shopper and not wasting the extra food is essential to not spending a fortune.

I take my lunch everyday and I use a variety of different things. I really like frozen meals...easy, but you have to a microwave. I prefer Healthy choice, lean cuisine, and Smart ones. They are low in fat and actually have a lot of flavor. You can also bring leftovers, canned soup, and then the always faithful sandwich. Try mixing it up by doing a chicken Cesar tortilla wrap, or any kind of lettuce wrap for that matter.

As for snacks there are all kinds of 100 calorie packs by Keebler and Nabisco. There are sweet and savory choices and all are good. You could always go healthy and do fruits and veggies.

Just make sure you have a good variety of meals and snacks!!! Good Luck!

Hot soup in a thermos is great with a slice of thick home made bread or cornbread. I'm Southern , so cornbread gets served a lot around here.

Also, instead of sandwiches all the time , make some tortilla wraps the night before..
Spread each flour tortilla with ranch dressing ( or cream cheese ) , then deli ham or roast beef, very thinly slced onion, and a leaf of lettuce. Roll up .

I like a power bar, too. Later after lunch, if I hit a low point, a power bar gives me a lift.

My husband takes lunch to work almost every day and he saves loads of cash because of it.

Sandwiches get dull, so vary it with individual servings of ravioli or spaghetti or stew he can heat up in a microwave at work.

Buy different breads, cut into slices and freeze to keep them fresh. Rye sandwich one day, whole wheat the next, etc.

Condiments can make a big taste difference so invest in different mustards, at least.

Try egg salad, chicken salad, liver paste, ham spread, if you eat that sort of thing.Don't forget the veggies: carrot sticks, celery, radishes and lettuce and tomato and onion for the sandwich. Don't forget cold packs in the cooler, if there's nowhere to store it refrigerated.

My husband always takes a little pudding pack and juice boxes and yogurt, too. You can help by making up brownies or lemon bars or cookies.

In the end, your boyfriend will feel better because he isn't eating fast food, too.

Yeah just a heads up on the cold cuts, I buy them for myself and they go to waste because I can only eat them once maybe twice a week....the cold cut thing gets old fast for me...

try getting those soup at hand things for him...they are easy to travel with and are good...also making a little extra for dinner so he can have leftovers for work is a big saver! Just make sure he has a microwave at work! Also he can pack a salad.

Soups, sandwiches, fresh veggies & fruits, left overs--those are my husbands favorites.....works for the kids and myself too! Instead of spending money on tiny prepacked snacks, I make a batch of cookies, brownies or a cake --there are several low calorie options there. I also don't bother with the individual soups--just make it up at home, then pack what we need...easy enough to do & less expensive. Invest in a good set of microwave safe containers & a good thermos as well!

He could also add pb & j to the weekly sandwhiches. If you look in the cracker/cookie aisle, they have lots of snacks that come in 100 calorie packs. They are pretty good too! Or pretzels are always a healthy choice. If he likes fruit, he should add an apple or orange to the lunch.

Me and my boyfriend recently moved into our first apartment together, so he makes lunch and takes it with him so he doesn't spend a lot eating out. Here are some ideas:

Tuna sandwich
Ham, Turkey or Salami sandwich
PB & J sandwiches
Salads
Soup
Leftovers are a great idea
Rice
Pasta
Apples
Oranges
Yogurts
Trail mix bars

Hopefully he has a fridge at work to keep everything cold, if not then there really isn't much he'll be able to take with him.

you could buy a big package of fresh chicken boneless breasts and bake them all then freeze them individually then it's a quick defrost, throw in skillet/microwave main dish that you can quickly prepare the night before along with a side like a vegitable or pototo. Frozen fish fillets are good too. I love my crockpot because I love homemade soups like broccoli cheddar soup or potato bacon and cheddar and you can freeze them in small-portion containers and just grab and go.

For snacks I like the healthy fruit snacks or roll-ups from the health/organic foods section. There are also honey sticks that are fruit-flavored honey in like a straw that are available at Giant Eagle (grocery) in my area. also trail mix is good. I also like veggies and dip. Bagel chips are healthy too and you can make your own. I like banana chips and dried strawberries. fresh fruit is always great too. You can also look up a good granola recipe with oatmeal, nuts, dried berries, and honey for a good snack.

The thing is with cold cuts, is that they aren't very healthy for you-especially if you eat them a lot.

Another thing I did is I purchased a bunch of smaller size tupperware containers to put portions of food, soup or whatever in and put them in the freezer. Like say you make a big meal and you know you don't want to eat the same thing the next day, throw it in containers and pop them in the freezer. you never know when you might be in the mood for it.

If he's wanting to still remain healthy, I'd shun frozen foods completely. They have preservatives that aren't exactly healthy to the body.

I pack my hubby's lunch maybe 5 times out of the week.

Canned fruits, veggie sticks, chicken salad sandwiches, and PBJ.

Also I agree with the left overs from last night!!!
