I'm looking for opinions on light or dark rum. I usually drink Bacardi, but heard other rums are much better - Cruzan, My. Gay, Pusser's. I understand some are good straight/on the rocks, but I have never tried it. Already drink Malibu and Capt. Morgan's.

I want to just mix it with Coke/diet Coke or Ginger ale or something, maybe pineapple juice.

What rums in your opinion are the best tasting and best for mixing?

Here's why I'm asking. I'm doing research before going on a cruise. I'm going to sneak some rum in either a 20 oz. water bottle (white rum) or an iced tea bottle (dark rum). Then I'll mix it with juice from the lido deck or my own soda (which you're allowed to bring on board). Getting tired of plain old white Bacardi and would like some other ideas.

The Appleton's sounds good, but I'll be in the Carribean for a week. :)

Gosling's Black Seal Bermuda Rum is delicious with ginger ale or ginger beer if you can get it.
Myer's is also decent and cheap.
Mount Gay is popular with old people for some reason- they usually have okay taste.
Cachaca (pronounced "cuh-SHAH-suh" Pitu is a decent brand) is a nice Brazilian rum that's very popular because of its presence in caipirinhas ("kai-peer-REEN-yuh") which are a very popular drink right now-- it's Cachaca rum with a bunch of fresh muddled limes and raw cane sugar. Delicious!
On the rocks would go with a good gold rum-- Cruzan is pretty good. Mixed with coke, just stick with Bacardi. A dark rum like Myer's or Gosling's goes nice with ginger ale and/or pineapple juice. If you're going to get a nice liquor you probaby shouldn't bother mixing it with anything. It's kind of a waste.

It's very difficult to get, but Cazique from Venezuela is the finest dark rum in the world. Try liquor outlets in the Miami or wider Caribbean area.

Try Bacardi Peach with Ginerale. It is also excellent with pineapple juice. That is what I drink I think it is the best rum.

In my opinion, Newfoundland Screech is the best dark rum ever. You can buy it at most liquor stores in Canada, but I don't know about the US. Everyone I've introduced it to agrees that it's a great rum. :)

Redrum a small brand, recommend some think with flavor, like Bacardi drinks(Limon,Strawberry etc.)
mixing them with other stuff like O.J. or Cranberry juice, or Orange soda a little bite.. maybe like a Mojito(mint leaves)
I'd experiment...Have fun don't get complacent..
