Spirituality is very important. However, it's your faith - in whatever you choose to believe in that makes you who you are.

I agree. I am not religious I am spiritual. Religion is man made to control the population. Well we are far beyond the 1700's and we are mature enough to figure out our own paths in life without being threatened hell if we do not follow a certain belief. It is crazy. God should be about being spiritual and about love and peace and not about the dumb word sin or how supposly we all have to be sorry for being born in a unperfect world! Life is common sense but so much being taught is not common sense.

"For we all know that our patchwork background is a force, no longer a weak spot. We are a country of Christians and Muslims, Jews and Hindus — and non-believers. We are formed by means of each language and tradition, drawn from each finish of this Earth; and seeing that we have now tasted the sour swill of civil warfare and segregation, and emerged from that darkish bankruptcy more potent and extra united, we can't aid however suppose that the historic hatreds shall at some point go; that the traces of tribe shall quickly dissolve; that as the arena grows smaller, our average humanity shall monitor itself; and that America have to play its position in ushering in a brand new generation of peace."

hi Claudia (i love that name) i think people tend to believe in traditional religions because it's safer. even religions that are really strange are safe because you have a community behind you. people like to feel safe in a crowd. i don't have a religion but i do believe in God. to me religion just gets in the way of everything. i believe there is something more to life than just what we perceive it to be. physical reality is an illusion, a dream we will someday wake up from. contact me and i will tell you some things you haven't even thought of.

I think people are so into religions one b/c it gives them something to believe in after death and two it teaches our children morals through story telling. except some muslim sects which seem to teach anti everything not muslim. but looking at judism, christanity, buddism, and all the others the back story is the same.

This is what I believe in:

Jesus Christ, born of a virgin, died on the cross to save us from our sin, rose the third day to conquer death for us, ascended to heaven to prepare a place for us, and is coming back to get all who believe this.
Will you believe this?
Would you like to go with Jesus when He returns?

That makes me a Christian, a disciple of Jesus Christ. Some people call that a religion. I call Him my friend.

kinda confusing like text lingo (expanded, heheh). kidding aside. yeah, you're right, they all say almost about the same thing but go about it differently. some religions are in fact progenies of others. while some are derived from far more ancient ones.

Because this is the religion AND spirituality section. There are spiritualists here, and they're welcomed by most of us.

I'm a Christian.

We speech about religions because they give meaning to spirituality.

Without religions, spirituality is undefined.

Its all conjecture: I find various religeons interesting and worth talking about, but am not passionate about my beliefs. It does come down to religeon versus free will, and the lead monotheist religeons dont believe in free will they believe in abeyance to their cause. I sincerely believe that radical islam and fundamentalist chrisitianity have but one desire--to destroy each other.............

I consider myself to be christian in the loose sense, but not in fundamentalist ways. I also admire taoism, which does acknowledge three or four basic gods. Is there such thing as a christian taoist? Thats me...............
