Let me explain the question further>
You are named in a will from someone who does not know you and left money. How they got your name is irrelavent. Is it a legal and binding document? Does it have to be in the same state? Country?

If the person who made the will had all his marbles and will is valid it would be legal. Peculiar, but legal. If you are contacted by someone who wants you to pay to get this unexpected inheritance, it is probably a scam.

There are a bunch of questions pertaining to the validity of a will. But, if the person is competent, doing it with free will, the will is complete, etc., the will should be legal and binding. Different states and countries are going to have some questions that might be more or less, but most of the free world will likely follow English Common Law or something similar.

The person who dies doesn't need to know you. But the will has to be specific to identify you as the beneficiary. E.g., last known relative, the person who took care of my dog while I was in the hospital, etc.

Someone indicated that it could be a scam. It probably is if you have to give them bank information, social security numbers, pre-payment of some funds, etc.

If you received a strange email from a lawyer/barrister claiming that someone died and left you a ton of money, it is a SCAM. Just delete it.
